divesting from Israeli investments itself constitutes a form of academic freedom. Palestinian, Muslim, and Arab scholars have experienced widespread repression. Divesting safeguards their ability to pursue their scholarship free from external interference.

#UofT was one of the last unis in Canada to divest from South Africa during apartheid in 1988. Gertler citing "academic freedom" as the reason that prevents UofT from divesting from Israel's genocide of Palestinians is ridiculous.

Dear #uoft admin: threatening legal action unless students accept your resolution sounds a lot like extortion. Also "exploring disclosure" of investments is not what the students are protesting for. Disclose. Divest. Now. There is precedent for this. cp24.com/news/uoft-won-…
