Mahesh Sharma: A friend, who never stopped caring. A journalist, who never stopped writing... Whether it was family or social commitments, joy or sickness, Mahesh Sharma Ji was always filing stories. Not just writing for the given day, he would have two or three stories in his pocket as well. Whenever The Tribune wanted special stories from Ahmedgarh, Ludhiana, Raikot, Jagraon or Malerkotla, Mahesh would always raise his hand and deliver. Whenever there was a crisis at the Ludhiana Tribune desk over news matter, Mahesh was always the man Friday. Wherever he was, he would only say, "Don't worry, there will be no shortage of matter." Even the dreadful disease of cancer could not dampen his spirits. The day he went for his medical tests, the day he was diagnosed, the day he had his chemotherapy, and even the days he spent in hospital — Mahesh ji was always filing news. The cruel stroke of death may have stopped it, but wherever he is, Mahesh ji must still be writing something, sending it across in ways only he would know how. Mahesh Sharma ji and his contribution to The Tribune, and to journalism from a small town, will always be remembered. Having known him for about 25 years, and having seen him battle life, family, career and social demands, I would say — we all were, and will always be, proud of you. And proud of the remarkable children, Jasmine and Veenu, you raised, and the legacy of journalism you left behind.
