Our son was the youngest kid at Alpha School Miami (2nd Alpha School in the country). He started at 5 years old when there were just 8 kids.
It’s been amazing for him. He barely asks for screens outside of school. He even asked to bring his school laptop home to do math lessons this weekend and was so excited to hit his goals. He was choosing to do his lessons Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday. There a trade offs on screen time but he’s now scoring in 95+ percentile in math and reading since starting.
Couldn’t recommend Alpha more.

People seem to love it. But from my understanding, a good % of the learning is screen time.
I'm vehemently against kids using screens (iPad stuff, short form video, etc).
But I want to hear who's sent kids to Alpha + how/if the screen time was impactful (negatively).
What Joe's doing is super interesting and would be awesome to work. Would love to see it win + have my fears addressed.

I was heavy anti screen time for my first… But after coming across synthesis & seeing the Alpha School model I did research to challenge those beliefs…
Now I’m anti-entertainment based screen time and pro-educational screen time with intention. Never at a restaurant. Never because you’re bored. Only when it’s time to learn division, a language, phonics, etc..
Might regret it… But so far, it’s working.

@freddier El primero: la caída de la actitud de aprendizaje de por vida (lifelong learning) que está muy relacionado con la educación en los niños. Aquí hay dos claves interesantes a tratar: cultura del esfuerzo (se ha desplomado) + cultura de la inmediatez (todo tiene que ser ya).
