My second year in high school, I met a girl who had a special spark. She went to a different school than me, she had a boyfriend, and I had a girlfriend, but that didn’t stop us from becoming best friends. We would text each other during the day, hang out on aim chatting for hours each night, and would find ways to see each other every weekend. Being with her just felt natural. Like I could be my true self. I loved her as a friend, but nothing more than that. After a few months, she no longer had a boyfriend and I no longer had a girlfriend. The opportunity was there to ask her out, but I never looked at her like more than a friend. I was scared asking her to be my girlfriend might ruin the beautiful friendship we had. But soon, our texts got more flirty, and I started to wonder if maybe this special friendship I had with her could blossom into something more. So one day, after watching a movie together, I kissed her. Any doubts I had about whether we could be more than friends vanished instantly. I asked her to be my girlfriend, and she said yes. 17 years later, I can confidently say that dating your best friend is one of the greatest pleasures in life. Feeling very thankful ❤️
