I’ll avoid taking a strong stance on this either way but I will say a lot of these big college rivalries are increasingly becoming more abstract and less personal in an era where rosters are national and student bodies come from OOS more and more (at least in smaller states).

@IshmaelRJohnson Same here for 98 WC in France. Had been a Dutch fan since late 80s (Ruud Gullit et al.) but never a club team. Bergkamp's play in 98 ----> Arsenal fan.

Curious, American soccer fans, what's your fan journey?
Mine: Watching the 2010 World Cup and was completely enthralled by the young German team that was just torching teams, particularly Mesut Ozil.
Kept tabs on him afterward, loosely, but fully adopted Arsenal when he signed.

@timstillman_ The craziest point I will make is: Stateside I’ve seen every Arsenal fixture via legal streaming. I find it completely shambolic that’s not the case in England. Can’t imagine if I was only able to watch 3/4 of NFL games.

Really well put re: how many more live games we have now (and therefore how much more exposure we have to boring, attritional games that have always happened). 17 of Arsenal's 38 PL games were televised in 2003-04 (it was eight up until 20 March). So far this season, 27 of their 31 games have been televised.
