What can we do as outsiders? Well, nearly 15% of int'l tourism $ is spent in the U.S. annually. So long as it values guns over children, & men emulating the Taliban re: women & the LGBTQ+, we can commit to not visiting the U.S. until it decides to rejoin civilization. #RoeVWade

@CinemaTweets1 The reason why I think it didn't catch on at awards time is because during the holiday season, industry people on vacay tune out at anything nearly as challenging as this. This is visionary filmmaking. Fuck the lazy voters, idc. This is going to stand the test of time.

@CinemaTweets1 The Testament of Ann Lee is going to eventually be considered among the great "quest" films like Aguirre or Apocalypse Now. It's told with a feminist fervor unlike any other movie directed by a woman that I can think of. It's so rich, there's so much to dissect about it.

I just finished The Testament of Ann Lee (🌟🌟🌟🌟). Umm…holy shit. That was amazing? I’d like someone to explain to me like I’m a gold retriever why Mona Fastvold wasn’t considered for an Oscar for this film? I’m not even trying to be cute- this isn’t me trying to be funny: what in God’s name happened that Amanda Seyfried didn’t get an Oscar nomination for this film? I mean, what do I know- it’s not like I follow this industry like my life depends on it. But what is the reason this movie was swept under the rug? From the same creative team that gave us The Brutalist, Fastvold & her husband Brady Corbet just made another masterful film. Those of you who’ve followed me long enough know by now that as a violinist of 25 years & someone who’s played in pit orchestras, sought after broadway shows & lived and died with musicals, I am partial to any film that incorporates music in a meaningful way. As I explained in my criticism of Emilia Perez, the entire reason music is infused into a movie is to add to the emotion: music can express feelings we go through that words sometimes can’t. Music is a powerful tool that can pull us as an audience nearly face-to-face with those on screen….when it’s done right! When it’s done wrong? Oh my god, call the authorities. Notify the police. A disaster is ensuing. In other words, musicals are high risk, high reward. The Testament of Ann Lee, which is the story of Ann Lee and the founding of the Shaker movement, is not, per se, a musical. Groups of characters & individuals, like Ann Lee herself, break out into song & dance (I mean, this is a film about how the Shakers who were called “the shakers” because of their worship style that included song & dance) but it doesn’t necessarily mean this is a conventional musical. But regardless of what you want to call this film, the way music is used to help literally tell Ann’s story- not just to help express her emotional state of being- is extremely thoughtful & very interesting. It’s like the music helps unfold the plot in addition to help bringing us closer to the characters- in that sense, the music serves a dual purpose. Make no mistake that despite any musical component to this film, this is an extremely serious story and a story that pulls absolutely no punches. Like The Brutalist, Ann Lee is able to walk down a path that needs to be told & does so with full integrity. Told in a conventional three-act structure (and let me be totally fucking clear, that’s probably the only “conventional” thing about this movie), we follow Ann after the traumatic loss of four children that leads her to celibacy. Lee then essentially turns into a Christ-like figure that unifies a group of followers that eventually flees Manchester only in hopes of building a utopian community in New York. It’s a story that carries so much weight and literally buckled me to my couch within 10 minutes. I appreciate how serious & heavy this story is & how much care was used in telling such a heavy story. As this film unfolds, you start to feel a push & pull- a back and forth- between Mona Fastvold and Amanda Seyfried. This is a rare, rare example of actor-director being in total lockstep. These two are on the exact same page. It’s like seeing an offensive coordinator & quarterback share one mind & become one and the same. Shame on me- damn me to hell- for not seeing this on the big screen. What was I thinking? 70 MM print, could you imagine? Fastvold, like Corbet in The Brutalist, tosses a piece of real filmmaking on your plate and gives you that one chance to eat a bite of steak without needing a single drop of A1 sauce. The meat’s good enough. Don’t you dare add anything. Then there’s Seyfried. My god. What? Who? How? Kate Hudson did not deserve an Oscar nomination over Amanda, I’m not apologizing for saying that. I love Hudson- she’s my Almost Famous big sis- but what the hell is going on that Seyfried doesn’t get an Oscar nom here? She is magnificent. She is everything. She cuts open her heart & soul and gives all of it to the audience. This was one of the best films of 2025 & I’m a fool for not seeing this sooner

@merry123459 My folks paid $100/month in rent in 1970 Welland. The following year they bought their 3-bdrm bungalow for $15K cash they saved working as a truck driver & bank teller just 6 yrs out of high school. They were 24. I'd suggest you stfu & listen instead of making stupid judgments.

You also don’t walk out of college or university expecting to buy a new 4 bedroom house, two cars, boats, skidoos, etc. The reason you struggle is because you aren’t willing to wait and make do like we did. Your entitlement is causing you to struggle.
Bitcoin Teddy@Bitcoin_Teddy

Older generations say “we all struggled in our 20s.” No, you didn’t. You didn’t pay $3200 for rent and $10 for eggs. You didn’t graduate into $50K student debt and $0 job security. Gen Z isn’t dramatic. They’re drowning.

@merry123459 @tallzabby My dad drove a rig and mom was a bank teller in the mid-to-late 60's. They were in the workforce just 5 years and bought their first house, a 3-bdrm bungalow, for $15K cash in 1971. They were 24 that year. That's impossible to do w/those jobs now. Our economy is broken.

@lescarletwoman @merry123459 Okay, but as Vicki says people are expecting houses, etc out of the gate. My parents didn't buy their first home until they were 40 because they had student loans - dad was teacher who taught night school and summer school, mom was a nurse who worked nights.

By the time this is over, we will control the Strait of Hormuz and Kharg Island, Europe and China will have to buy gas and oil from us and we will charge them triple just because we can, Greenland and Cuba will be territories, and Canada will still be crying like losers.

The people who are saying having both Jesús Sánchez and Nathan Lukes on the roster is redundant are funny man. Aside from being left-handed, they share no similarities as baseball players. Polar opposite profiles. The Jays are gonna use both regularly based on the opposing SP.

@guy_eagles @TylerCWhitmore Lol, in just the past decade, Denzel has put up Fences, Roman J. Esquire, Macbeth, and then a hitman. All four of those characters are wholly different from each other. People just don't watch his good movies, they only know him from Equalizer type stuff.

@TylerCWhitmore Fan of them all but 1. Leo (best all around) 2. Denzel (limited range but elite at what he does) 3. Bale (has fallen off a bit recently but early career performances were superb) 4. Gosling (hasn’t reached the same highs as the top 3 imo, but consistently good and charismatic)

@pastrysourpuss @spponers @TylerCWhitmore I'm specifically talking about the characters, I mean the performances have been pretty mediocre for Denzel Washington standards, but he has been playing varied characters in very different settings

@KirkWrites79 Denzel has credibly done action and drama. Only thing missing is comedy which I am sure he'd be excellent at if he chooses to go the De Niro route late in his career. He's just not at that stage yet, he may never be.

@KirkWrites79 Two great acting teachers I had each bemoaned the bias that said, "Oh well, they're just playing themselves" when it came to actors like Denzel or Jack Nicholson. The most difficult thing to do in acting is to give people the impression that that's YOU coming through a character.

Ahead of its final season, I finally started watching #TheBoys. Season 1: Awesome! Season 2: Good. Season 3: A little wonky, but fine. Season 4: I'm at Episode 3 and my interesting is waning. Way too much standing around and being ponderous. Does it get any better?

@SUlam00731161 @Midnight_kev @VigilantFox The problem with MAGA is that they lack critical thinking skills. "Operations in Iran are winding down" is just something Trump said. Grownups know to measure a person's ACTIONS v. their words.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna steals the show on Bill Maher’s Real Time as she drops a White House insider’s take on the Iran war. Here’s what she revealed that Maher had no clue about: • Operations are winding down in Iran • Trump has been clear in private conversations that he doesn’t want boots on the ground. • The Iranians had what Luna described as a “Nazir plan” before the most recent strike, meaning any attack could have triggered immediate retaliation. • That retaliation, she and others believe, could have led to mass casualties for U.S. troops in the region. • She would oppose boots on the ground, even if Trump supported it. But as she said earlier, that scenario was never seriously on the table to begin with. MAHER: “Well, you seem to know some stuff we don’t.” LUNA: “Well, that’s why I’m here.” MAHER: “Did you know this shit, Paul?” PAUL BEGALA: “No, I’m glad you’re here.” If that Anna Paulina Luna moment stood out to you, there’s a lot more where that came from.
