its pretty clear to me at this stage that climate change has had its sandy hook moment. i mean that big oil took a deep breath and then read the room wrt paris 1.5c target and ESG. as we blow past 1.5 they realized that nobody cares and exhaled again. sandy hook all over again

open sourcing this soon. tool is called beastctl. dropping the repo when per-key rgb lands, which is the next unlock and should be this week. zero dependencies, stdlib only. documenting every blocker in the doc so nobody else burns 15 hours on the same wall.

cracked it open. day one with the rog strix scar 18 5090 i wiped windows and installed linux like i do on every machine and like i tell every builder to do. and things didn't worked. no keyboard rgb. no anime vision matrix on the lid. no logo light, no seat underglow. openrgb doesn't support this model. asus ships exactly zero linux support for a machine with 24gb of vram. couldn't even run a long night coding session with the keys lit. just a black deck in the dark. about 15 hours of focused work later it's all alive. and the anime vision matrix on the lid is so cool with colors breathing, rainbow cycle, anime vision streaming animations at ~15 fps. the actual lock was an init handshake the windows driver stack quietly does for you and nobody told me about. the embedded controller wants the ascii string "ASUS Tech. Inc." sent as feature reports to three report ids before it will accept any color command. without it the device silently discards every packet you send, no error, nothing. my wireshark captures from armoury crate missed this because the captures started after the handshake had already happened. three hours of byte for byte replay before i realized my capture was midstory. kernel 6.17 tested, hid-asus kernel driver stays loaded the whole time, keyboard input survives, zero module unbinding. per-key rgb and persistence across reboots are the next milestones. the rest is just engineering non. if you run linux on a rog laptop drop your model below, you're about to get your machine back.

first week on the rog scar 18 5090 on linux and the rgb doesn't work, backlight doesn't work and fan profiles need asusctl because asus ships exactly zero linux support for a machine with 24gb of vram. opening prs and documenting fixes as i go. if you run linux on a rog laptop drop your setup and biggest pain below.

The $SPY ripped +8% unabated and the $QQQ ripped +10% unabated since the March 30th lows just 8 days ago. Then on April 7th it had that massive one for the ages gap pop on the official 2 week ceasefire news with hopes of an actual ceasefire this weekend. Tonight, Vance said there was no agreement. If nothing positive transpire between now and cash open, I would gotta imagine we retrace at least 1/3 to 1/2 of that gap open.

No deal...this war will take a decade to settle. Issue is, there is no decent way out for us. We look like idiots in front of the whole world. Situation is even more messed up than before. Iran will charge for ships to pass. 💰 Oil is more expensive. 😧 Inflation is up ⬆️ Rates might stay up longer % Regime is still there and will murder more innocent people. We don’t have their uranium. This is costing us immense amount of $. What a mess.

Kamala Harris is teasing at a 2028 presidential run. Please. Do us all a favor. Just don't. You didn't know how to run a campaign in 2020. You fumbled even harder in 2024. You aren't presidential material. Go ghost write a book and sell out to the private sector.

The sudden and inexplicable speech by Melania -- denying she was Epstein's "victim," that he introduced her to Trump, that she had a relationship with him, and urging more investigation and disclosure -- is one of the most bizarre events, especially at this point in the war.
Michael Tracey@mtracey

This is gobsmacking. Not only did Melania Trump suddenly decide to give a televised address about Jeffrey Epstein, she's calling on Congress to "act," because Epstein was "not alone." So she just threw a giant stick of political dynamite on the issue her husband despises!

I asked Claude to help me build a VIX monitoring dashboard. 3D Volatility Surface. Term Structure with live CBOE data. All tenors from VIX9D to VIX1Y. Now I can see exactly how fear is distributed across time horizons and spot regime shifts before they hit my portfolio. Next step: adding more expirations to get smoother curves and surfaces. Built in Python. Powered by Claude. This is what systematic risk management looks like.

Weird tape today. Seeing lots of short-term price accelerations up on lower time frames as we push into the ceiling that is the collar. Looks somewhat forced to me. Mechanical. Potentially shorts hitting limits to cover? Not quite sure.

@JuneGoh_Sparta it might pry japan loose from fossil fuels. to-date it seems island nation view is all energy is shipped in. maybe relying on energy shipped in isn't all its cracked up to be. come on japan do some renewables it won't kill you.

I realize that my tone has been very pessimistic about the whole crisis. So let me share my views on some positive outcomes that should emerge from this - and I would love to hear more good stuff from you guys too! 1⃣ Renewables will be a bigger part of our energy mix. 2⃣Dependence on oil and derived products (like plastic) will reduce. 3⃣ Refineries will stop closing and perhaps we can see a renaissance in refining within some countries! 4⃣ The world understands oil trading a bit better. Now it's your turn to share your half-full glasses! ⭐️ #oott

@Nebraskangooner are there any old projects you want to pick up again. for me i lost interest in photography but the ultra hdr stuff the phones do now piqued my curiosity. so i sat down with claude code and worked on converting my 20 years of canon raw files to this new format. wow.

For some reason I'm struggling mentally recently. Usually I can control my thoughts and generally be happy and enjoy things. Lately I'm just in a rut. I haven't been enjoying working out. I haven't wanted to do anything during the day or even find enjoyable things to do. I just want to do nothing. Daily tasks seem like they drag on forever and my brain wants nothing to do with them. I don't even know why I'm posting this. Maybe saying it out loud will help me snap out of it. Sometimes your brain just hits a wall and you feel like there's no way out of it; even though you know there is. You know what I mean?

Yes, verified per Tasnim News Agency: reports of an Iranian delegation arriving in Islamabad tonight are false. Negotiations with the US remain suspended until Washington meets its commitments on Lebanon (i.e., halting Israeli violations of the ceasefire). Earlier announcements of the visit (including by Iran's ambassador, who later deleted his post) have been walked back amid the dispute. Some outlets like WSJ claim the delegation arrived anyway, but Tasnim's statement is the primary Iranian position.

@ALikhodedov Including the pre-war volumes, it looks to be around 150-155 mb. There are very few ballast tankers waiting just outside the Strait—somewhere between 30-40 mb. It’s been over a week since I last updated these figures myself. I’ll run the numbers again with my analyst today.

Let’s try to push aside the noise regarding the ceasefire and the uncertainty of the future for a moment. We all know that restarting production is a process. 1) The tankers trapped inside the Strait must exit first, 2) ballast tankers must then enter the Persian Gulf for loading, and 3) the onshore storage tanks, which are currently at full capacity, must be drained to create the necessary space to resume production. Of course despite the ceasefire, traffic through the SoH remains effectively blocked today, so it is a certainty this entire process has been delayed by another day lol Since I’m an optimist, let’s assume for a moment starting tomorrow, tankers are guaranteed total safety and begin passing through the Strait. Even then how long would it take for production to actually resume? How long will it take for tankers scattered across the Pacific and Atlantic to return to the Persian Gulf? How long before those tankers successfully load and head to their respective destinations? Iraq serves as a prime example of the severe impact. Export recovery must precede any recovery in production. How long do you think it will take to restore production to roughly 4mb/d? Do you expect ChatGPT to just flip a switch and bring 4mb/d back online as of April 9th? The truth is we’ve already passed the tipping point. The production shut-in of over 10mb/d continues even as we speak, and the draw on global onshore inventories already began last week. I just wanted to put that out there. #oott #iran

I just gave Claude Mythos the full corpus of published EUV stochastic defect data from every SPIE Lithography conference since 2018. The resist shot noise problem is the reason sub-2nm nodes might not be manufacturable. Every photoresist vendor says it’s a fundamental limit. I asked Mythos to solve this… and it’s making progress. It’s designing a chemically amplified resist molecular structure atom by atom. It ran 200,000 Monte Carlo photon absorption simulations on our GPU cluster autonomously. Found a sensitizer geometry that reduces stochastic variation by 4x while maintaining the deprotection kinetics needed for throughput. It just asked me if I want it to generate the synthesis pathway. I said yes. It’s writing the reaction sequence. Guys I’m fucking scared…
