At 5:03 this morning, my second brain filed new research into itself while I slept. 34 wiki pages. Every fact cited to a source note. An AI audits its health monthly. I didn't touch any of it. Here's the system.

@guialvesaraujo @TheZweli That's completely fair - I definitely don't understand some of the celebrities being the person that brings out the match ball, or the general infatuation with celebrities here haha

@jasonwall @TheZweli In Brazil, there’s a law requiring the national anthem before every sporting event. So it’s not unusual for us. However, it’s merely a formality, not some huge celebrity-filled spectacle. That’s why it may seem strange from the outside.

@chris_exstrom_ @madisonkelleyp Stupid - or just not a morning person. The light is personally much better for me and my family. You may have a different opinion, that's your prerogative.

@jasonwall @madisonkelleyp You’re on the western half of central like I am. There’s no need for the shift. We’re already geared to have more evening sun as is. Are you lowkey stupid?

I’m so sorry but if you think your season depression is going to get better because it’s light until 5:30-6 pm instead of 4:30 for two months out of the year, but will instead be dark until almost 9 am you’re mistaken.

It is apples to apples - When an athletic event is happening our soil, we play our anthem to honor our troops who are protecting our freedoms (and ability to host events like this). We've been doing it since World War 1 and World War 2. We then also play the anthems of whatever other countries happen to be playing in that event, out of respect. In my example, it's the team we're playing against. In your example, it's the two teams playing the match.

@jasonwall @MCFC__Latino @TheZweli Jason read what you said and see if that is the same as what’s happening at the final game? “What I will say is, every hockey game I’ve been to, we also play the Canadian national anthem when we play a Canadian team, out of respect to them” This is not apples to apples

@BasilTheGreat Now this one genuinely pisses me off, although still not as much as commercials during water breaks (or water breaks in general…)

@FrenchieForum @evanhill 65% PK success rate in this world cup. No data on first and goal from the 1, but the best estimate is 75-85% over 4 downs. Also, even if a DB is looking at the ball, if he ‘takes out’ the receiver by pulling down his arms or taking out his legs, still a penalty…

@jasonwall @evanhill Dude the defender here is looking right st the ball, that’s why he doesn’t see the player. What are you talking about? And what’s the success rate on a PK? Like 90%? No way football with the ball on the one has a higher touchdown rate than that. It takes 3 to 4 downs sometimes

@SirCumference98 @TheZweli When you go undefeated in 250 years of war, you can be as ‘weird’ as you want - we just got tired of wearing funny wigs and kissing the ring of a figurehead royal family, now we show pride by singing our anthem and flying badass planes over. 🇺🇸🚀✈️

Well the last Olympics here was 96 and 2002 (I think), and I was 9 and 15, so I’m not going to pretend to remember if we played our national anthem or not. What I will say is, every hockey game I’ve been to, we also play the Canadian national anthem when we play a Canadian team, out of respect to them. Quick question for you - why is it that you still have a King and royal family in the UK that attend international events, when they are largely figure heads? Is that tradition?

@jasonwall @TheZweli “Or at least in America we do” quick question, which other international events have you guys hosted where the US is not taking part of in that specific instance (the final in this case) and you’ve also performed your national anthem?

Because we’re the host nation, and it’s a tradition in our country to play our anthem before sporting events (or any even really). The World Cup is about bringing cultures together, and experiencing other people’s culture. This is part of our culture. You may not play your national anthem before matches in England, that’s not part of your culture, but that doesn’t mean other countries can’t have their own traditions. The only people “politicizing” it are people who 1) Don’t like America or 2) Don’t like Donald Trump - it’s really not political at all.

Why should the US national anthem be played? And don't give me the "because they're the host nation" argument. I can't remember a single World Cup where the host country's anthem was played before the final unless the host nation was actually one of the finalists. This World Cup has been more politicised than ever. Trump will present the trophy, and for the first time the US national anthem will be played despite the United States not even being one of the finalists. It's all becoming pretty disgusting. More than ever, FIFA needs its next president to be someone who can't be manipulated – someone with integrity, who will do the job properly. The current president is doing nothing but damaging the world of football.
Ben Jacobs@JacobsBen

FIFA confirm the World Cup closing ceremony will feature Tom Cruise, Laura Pausini, Nicole Scherzinger, Robbie Williams and IShowSpeed. Jennifer Hudson will perform the United States national anthem ahead of the final.

And for the kids at the bus stop in the dark argument - I was at the bus stop in the dark and cold, and I’d take that and getting more time to play after school over it being light at the bus stop 10 times out of 10

I understand the science says Standard Time is ‘better for our health’ - but I just can’t imagine any scenario where I’d rather have more light in the morning than at night - maybe because I’m not a ‘morning person,’ but having it stay light later is always better
