@zijing_wu For instance, in the 2025 International Biology Olympiad, there were only four members of the Chinese team. They all won gold, but there were also 26 gold medalists from other countries. ibo-info.org/files/download…

@zijing_wu This is a really interesting article! But this is incorrect - "As the years passed, Chinese teams started to sweep most of the gold medals at Olympiads" - no one country can sweep most of the golds, since national teams are small and ~10% of all participants receive a gold medal.

🚨 My first solo-authored article is out now at @BJPolS 🚨 tl;dr: When people w/ high verbal ability consume info, their ideological constraint and stability go up. But when people w/ low verabl ability consume info, constraint and stability go *down* cambridge.org/core/journals/… 🧵

Why don't Chinese people have the same citizenship rights throughout their whole country, and how is that changing? @s_vortherms of @UCIrvine explains in her new book on the hukou system, Manipulating Authoritarian Citizenship. Link to interview below.

Excited to share my latest article on the civil service exam in China and its stabilizing effect on the regime. I’m grateful to the APSR editors and reviewers, as well as many colleagues and peers who have generously provided valuable feedback that helped shape this work. 1/
American Political Science Review@apsrjournal

In this #APSRFirstView, @hanzhangliu argues how meritocracy can be used to co-opt large numbers of ordinary citizens by providing them with an opportunity of socioeconomic advancement instead of income redistribution. ow.ly/il5850QP5GJ

I wrote about how Wang Hui's theory of depoliticization and debates about this idea help theorists of the political party understand the relationship between the charismatic leader, mass movements, and possibilities of party renewal. Open access at @apsrjournal.
