The two suspects were also foster teens living in the same house. 17-year-old Landen Austin Moore has been charged with murder. The other is 16. The home belonged to the McCormick County Council Chairman. He was asleep inside while a 13-year-old was being stabbed and drowned on his property. This wasn’t a fight that got out of hand. This was two teenagers deciding to kill a child and making sure he stayed under the water until he was dead. The system put these kids together. A 13-year-old ended up stabbed and drowned because of it. How many more children have to die like this before someone admits the foster system is failing the kids it’s supposed to protect? It is hard to put into words the extreme sadness, frustration, and anger so many of us are feeling with respect to an alleged group attack on a Muslim woman in front of her 7-year-old child and others in Moncton, New Brunswick. While trying to enjoy a car parade inside a parking lot, the family were allegedly accosted by a group that yelled obscenities at them, including phrases like “Go back to your country." Moments after, the group then allegedly beat the Muslim women in front of her son, while her husband was some distance away. He said he found her later on with a swollen face and bloody nose, along with other sign of an alleged assault. This is a horrifying ordeal and the authorities have been alerted. We are in touch with all parties and urge authorities to investigate all angles of this incident, including hate motivations. Meanwhile, we urge all elected officials in Atlantic Canada and beyond to denounce the rise in Islamophobia across Canada, and to meet with community members. We will have more to say as the situation evolves.
