@SenAlexander I interviewed you at halftime of the mtsu vs east Tennessee game. I was a student with the then voice of the blue raiders Monte Hale. I think I still have the picture. God bless you sir!!

In 1974, when I was 34, I won the Republican nomination for governor of Tennessee. I lost the general election because voters were mad at Republicans about Watergate and because people said I was a “stuffed shirt.” So, when I wanted to run again four years later, my wife, Honey, said, “Wait a minute. First, I want to know 𝘸𝘩𝘺 you're running. What do you hope to accomplish? And second, could we have a different sort of campaign?” So we talked about it with some other people, and she said, "Well, why doesn't Lamar just do what he likes to do? He likes music, he likes to walk, he likes to meet people, he likes the outdoors." And then she said, "Why don't you just walk across the state?" And you don't walk across the state in a blue suit. So she and I went down to Friedman's Army Surplus Store on Hillsboro Avenue in Nashville, and we bought all the red-and-black plaid shirts they had. We added it to the two I already had, and I wore one of those shirts every day on my 1,022-mile walk across the state.
I did my best to shake hands with 1,000 people every day and spent the night with 73 families, most of whom I had not known before. I sank deep into the music, stories, and character of our state. I saw firsthand that Tennessee was third from the bottom in family incomes, there was little interest in bettering the education system, and the "anything is possible" spirit I grew up with in Maryville was not prevalent in the community.

"There are no maverick molecules in the universe," Ben Sasse.
“I hate cancer. But I'm also grateful for it. I tell a lot more truth to myself than I used to do it when I thought I was super omni-competent and interesting,” he says.
I don’t know Ben Sasse, his political views, or voting history, I’m just coming across his interview on @60Minutes
But…What an inspiration! What a champion!

You want the Church to “stay in its lane”?
This is the lane:
the poor.
the hungry.
the migrant.
peace over war.
If that sounds political—
it’s because the Gospel makes people uncomfortable.

Pope Leo XIV is not ‘woke’, nor a Marxist, nor a progressive, nor a leftist.
The Pope is simply a Christian.
When he defends the poor and the innocent, he is following the Gospel.
When he denounces injustice, he is imitating Christ.
When he speaks for the poor, he is repeating word for word the Sermon on the Mount.
Those who are angry at him are not fighting with Pope Leo XIV.
They are fighting with Christ.
Because it was Jesus who said: ‘Whatever you did for the least of my brothers, you did for me.’
Rejecting the Pope for being merciful is not something a Christian does.
The problem is not that Leo XIV has strayed from Christ.
The problem is that some have strayed so far from the Gospel that they no longer recognize it when they see it.

I urge everyone to accompany this moment of delicate diplomacy with prayer, in hopes that a willingness to dialogue may become the means to resolve other conflict situations in the world as well. #PrayTogether #Peace

@PeteThamel I’m having flashbacks to when my William & Mary team had our pre-game shoot-around on one end of the Camels court, while a Campbell PE class was using the hoop at the other end.

A cutting reflection from Cardinal Ratzinger, Good Friday 2005:
"Pilate is not utterly evil. He knows that the condemned man is innocent, and he looks for a way to free him. But his heart is divided. And in the end he lets his own position, his own self-interest, prevail over what is right.
Nor are the men who are shouting and demanding the death of Jesus utterly evil. Many of them, on the day of Pentecost, will feel "cut to the heart," when Peter will say to them: "Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God... you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law."
But at that moment they are caught up in the crowd. They are shouting because everyone else is shouting, and they are shouting the same thing that everyone else is shouting. And in this way, justice is trampled underfoot by weakness, cowardice and fear of the diktat of the ruling mindset. The quiet voice of conscience is drowned out by the cries of the crowd.
Evil draws its power from indecision and concern for what other people think."
