Pope Leo writes, “The speed and ease with which answers or summaries can be obtained risk extinguishing the desire to ask questions.” Curiosity and the human hunger to learn are under attack. They are trying to build a world in which no one *wants* to know anything.

Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Two new AI data centres proposed for Edinburgh would require 2 million litres of water per year & a continuous power supply of over 400 megawatts combined - the equivalent amount of energy as building five cities the same size as Edinburgh. But hey, let’s blame cow farts for destroying the planet.

UK chancellor tells ministers to ‘buy British’ in four key industries - shipbuilding, steel-making, energy and AI. All are foreign owned, profits exported. Manufacturing neglected: was 30% of GDP in 1970, now 9%+. Need a fundamental economic reset. theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

The closure of Grangemouth was an act of industrial vandalism, pure and simple. A proposal presented to the UK Government to transition the site to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) which would have helped hit environmental targets and transform the refinery, but not only have they ignored a golden opportunity to make our own green air fuel but we lost the production of ordinary air fuel that was being made by Grangemouth and by Lindsay in England. dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politics/… @GrangemouthJobs

This is a really important article. Anti-Muslim hatred is on the rise and the media is largely ignoring it.... "There is a growing sense that the world is slipping backwards – not through dramatic rupture, but through the steady normalisation of hate, the coarsening of public discourse and politicians increasingly fuelling division and racism. "Across the world, anti-Muslim abuse has risen sharply: mosques vandalised, women in hijabs assaulted, online spaces saturated with hate, and far-right marches openly calling for the eradication of Islam. Yet such incidents rarely command sustained outrage. They appear briefly before disappearing into the churn of the news cycle." theguardian.com/global-develop…

NOW ON 1.2 MILLION VIEWS. Are you listening @Keir_Starmer? More than 3,200 lawyers including 300 top barristers and retired judges have called on you to drop your plan to restrict the right to trial by jury. 30 organisations representing victims of violence against women and girls have written to the Justice Secretary urging him against curtailing the right to jury trials. Trial by jury is a cornerstone of our democracy and an essential safeguard against authoritarianism. The government has no mandate to restrict it - a move which will put us on a path toward authoritarian justice. It’s not too late for you to listen to the thousands of voices of victims, judges, barristers, other legal professionals and academics who oppose this. Please now do the right thing and abandon this blatant act of constitutional vandalism. @RobbieRinder @KarlTurnerMP @thebarcouncil @TheCriminalBar @Kirsty_Brimelow @Anna_Soubry

🚨KEIR STARMER IS SPEARHEADING ONE OF THE MOST SHOCKING ATTACKS ON CIVIL LIBERTIES IN MODERN TIMES The government has absolutely no mandate to do this. Labour never mentioned in its manifesto that it planned to undermine and restrict a fundamental cornerstone of our democracy - the right to trial by jury - a move which will place us on a path toward authoritarian justice. But it’s not too late for the government to listen to the thousands of voices of victims, judges, barristers, other legal professionals and academics who oppose this blatant act of constitutional vandalism. CONTACT YOUR MP NOW and ask them to step up and protect this cherished and precious cornerstone of our democracy

Bank Holidays in the NHS rely on staff across every part of the service. Doctors, nurses, HCAs, AHPs, porters, cleaners, and so many others all give up time with family and friends to keep hospitals running. Bank Holiday enhancements rightly recognise that. Doctors in England also work those same Bank Holidays, but do not receive an enhanced hourly rate for the hours they work. A fully qualified FY1 doctor can be rostered to be at work in hospital on a Bank Holiday for £19.27 an hour. Fully qualified. 5–6 year medical degree. Often over £100,000 of student debt. Fair pay should apply across the whole NHS workforce. I’ve broken down the Bank Holiday enhancements on this Instagram post. 👇 instagram.com/p/DYwcqvcjjbL/

Albert Einstein and Hannah Arendt's 1948 letter to the New York Times: They saw the creation of a Jewish ethnostate in Palestine at the expense of its indigenous Muslim and Christian population as a profound injustice and moral catastrophe. Einstein and the other signatories explicitly compared Begin’s Herut (Freedom Party), born from the Irgun, to Nazis and Fascists, warning that their ideology of racial superiority and violent ethnic nationalism posed a grave danger to the moral and political future of the new state. - - - Full text of Einstein and Hannah Arendt's letter to the New York Times: TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW YORK TIMES December 2, 1948 Among the most disturbing political phenomena of our time is the emergence in the newly created State of Israel of the “Freedom Party” (Tnuat Haherut), a political party closely akin in its organization, methods, political philosophy, and social appeal to the Nazi and Fascist parties. It was formed out of the membership and following of the former Irgun Zvai Leumi, a terrorist, right-wing, chauvinist organization in Palestine. The current visit of Menachem Begin, leader of this party, to the United States is obviously calculated to give the impression of American support for his party in the coming Israeli elections and to cement political ties with Zionist elements in the United States. Several Americans of national repute have lent their names to welcome his visit. It is inconceivable that those who oppose fascism throughout the world could condone, even by silence, the appearance of such a party in Israel. Within the Jewish community they have preached an admixture of ultra-nationalism, religious mysticism, and racial superiority. Like other fascist parties, they have been used to break strikes, and they have encouraged demoralization among labor. In their actions they have been marked by cruelty and contempt for human life. During the recent past, they have systematically terrorized the Arab population, attacked Jewish settlements, and sabotaged the rescue of displaced Jews from Europe. A shocking example was their behavior in the Arab village of Deir Yassin. This village, off the main roads and surrounded by Jewish lands, had taken no part in the war and had even fought off Arab bands that wanted to use it as their base. On April 9 (1948), terrorist bands attacked this peaceful village, which was not a military objective in the fighting, killed most of its inhabitants — 240 men, women, and children — and kept a few of them alive to parade through the streets of Jerusalem. Most of the Jewish community was horrified at the deed, and the Jewish Agency sent an apology to King Abdullah of Transjordan. But the terrorists, far from being ashamed of their act, were proud of it, widely publicized it, and invited foreign correspondents to view the corpses and the ravaged village. The Deir Yassin incident exemplifies the character and actions of the Freedom Party. Within the Jewish community they have attempted to institute a reign of terror, have beaten up Jews who opposed them, and have, by gangster methods, terrorized the population. It is inconceivable that those who oppose fascism throughout the world could condone, even by silence, the appearance of such a party in Israel. The undersigned therefore take this means of publicly presenting a warning to the American people concerning a danger to be found in the Freedom Party in Israel, a danger to which the leadership of Menachem Begin gives the greatest emphasis. (Signed): Albert Einstein, Hannah Arendt, Sidney Hook, Rabbi Jessurun Cardozo, Irma Lindheim, and 22 other Jewish scholars, writers, and public figures. (Published December 4, 1948, in The New York Times.)

Instead of real beds we have 10,000 ‘virtual beds’ (in your own home) which cost £165 per day (the same as the annual cost of a GP services) The unpaid carers subsidise this, as do community services Yet hospital trusts, NHSE & DHSC ‘clap’ themselves for their cost savings

Energy company profiteering is inflicting pain to all Since 2020, they have made £125.7bn profit from UK operations, equivalent to £4,400 per household. This is fuelling UK inflation, poverty and business costs. What will the Govt do? Watch the Minister's reply.

A record drop in waiting lists is being sold as success, but much of it comes from patients being removed, not treated. A&E is still in crisis with corridor care and long delays, while persistent staffing shortages continue to strain the system. That is not fixing the NHS.

This government has delivered the biggest single month drop in waiting times in 17 years. We are fixing the NHS so it’s fit for the future.

The NUWM was the collective fist of the worker. By 23 May 1932, the agitation against the Means Test had reached a boiling point in the industrial North. This was the peak of a movement that refused to be managed into silence. The state had transformed the Public Assistance Committees into inquisitions. They sent inspectors into the homes of the poor to count the chairs and the blankets. If a family had a piano or a radio, they were told to sell it before they could receive a penny of relief. It was the moral liquidation of the working class. On this day, the cry of "Not a Penny Off" was a demand for survival. The NUWM organisers were turning the shame of the dole queue into the anger of the picket line. Wal Hannington wrote that the movement had to be the fighting force of the workless. They did not just march: they occupied. They stood in the way of evictions, and they forced the committees to look at the human wreckage their policies created. They understood that capitalism creates a surplus population to keep the rest of the class in fear. The echoes of 1932 are deafening today. The Means Test has been laundered through the language of welfare reform and Universal Credit. The clipboard has been replaced by the algorithm, but the intent remains the same: to humiliate the recipient into submission. The modern sanction is the direct descendant of the 1932 cut. We are still living in a country where the state views the poor as a problem to be disciplined rather than a community to be sustained. The hunger marches of the thirties are mirrored in the silent, desperate queues at today's food banks. The system has evolved, but the cruelty is its heritage.
