@PublicEdMB @HelenProulx2 Instead of thinking of it as a “reading wars debate” I would challenge you to reframe it as a “human rights debate”. That is why the @OntHumanRights got involved in the first place and why @MBHumanRights is now involved as well.

It's the summer holidays, which means I have two books to give away. If you'd like to win a copy of The Art and Science of Teaching Primary Reading, all you have to do is **retweet** this tweet. Best of luck!

English Spelling Rule - A word cannot end in V. That's why V needs an E! When spelling rules are explained with funny, singing characters, it becomes more memorable. You’ll find out why you can never have two v’s together. ow.ly/PNj930svK9l

There was this idea we had to wait for students to master all the consonants and short vowels before we started to teach phonics...this is untrue and as Holly Lane stated: "that's probably the worst approach"

Interpreting research and translating it into classroom practice requires specialised knowledge and a lot of time, and the prospect can be daunting and demotivating for busy teachers who are newly aware of the Science of Reading. View the report at fivefromfive.com.au/wp-content/upl…

I don’t know who needs to hear this but, on track/high performing students thrive in structured literacy classrooms too.

@freddyreads I'm so curious to see more and see the scope and sequence used. Usually words like: under, happy, puppy, too, feels, are explicitly taught after a short vowel focus is mastered.
