FLOOD THE ZONE: Critics in Ontario say a flurry of government announcements on justice, alcohol and roads is designed to distract from sweeping changes the Ford government is planning to apply to FOI laws. globalnews.ca/news/11735233/… #onpoli

Wait a moment. So Doug Ford’s move to exempt himself from accountability through Freedom of Information Requests was never really about the Chinese Communist Party? Ontario, your own premier has been lying to you. Again. It’s time for him to go.
Colin D'Mello | Global News@ColinDMello

This is the admission. Premier Doug Ford - who was compelled by an Ontario court to turn over his cell phone records says "personal cellphones" should be exempt from public disclosure. globalnews.ca/news/11733205/…

Funny how @fordnation is saying that Ontario is less safe for women and girls than it was 10 years ago, yet neglects to realize that he had been in charge for 8 of those 10 years, and before that, his brother was in charge of Toronto. You did this, Doug!!!

Being Premier is such a great job because you can do whatever you want and get away with it by simply changing the laws you break. His daughters got caught speeding so he got rid of speed camera's. He got caught making corrupt phone calls so he cancels the FOI laws. Next?

💥REPORT: After the Skill Development Fund scandal, Doug Ford was ordered by a court to release his cell phone records. The Ford Government is now changing the Freedom of Information laws so it doesn't have to release those records. You awake yet, Canada?

Without a doubt, Doug Ford is absolutely the worst Premier Ontario has ever had.

This is REALLY about Doug Ford shielding himself from scrutiny and rewriting the rules so we can’t see what his government is doing. Blame everyone else, dodge accountability, hide the records. Ontarians see through it. #onpoli thestar.com/politics/provi…

@MaritStiles What could DUH'g possibly be texting that makes him think the Chinese want to see his texts? We deserve so much more than he will ever care to provide.... #FordFailedOntario

I don't think China wants your text messages, Premier, but the people of Ontario certainly want to know what government business you're conducting on your personal phone and what it means for their tax dollars...

Asked about the FOI changes, Ford defends the need to keep his cell phone records private. Then he adds: “We’ve got to protect ourselves against the Communist Chinese that are infiltrating our country, Canada, the US, everything.”

Doug Ford is now falsely suggesting that he needs to exempt his government, office and cell phone from Freedom of Information requests by journalists because, in his words, “We’ve got to protect ourselves against the Communist Chinese that are infiltrating our country”. What a load of crap. Democracy typically doesn’t turn into autocracy overnight. It just declines, as the daylight of transparency and accountability is blocked out, and we’re left with nothing but darkness. We can’t let Ford get away with this.

Doug Ford is changing the law to block access to information from the Premier’s and Ministers’ offices through Freedom of Information requests. Let’s be clear - without FOI, we wouldn’t know the truth about the Greenbelt scandal, the Skills Development Fund, and so much more. Transparency matters. Ontarians deserve a government that answers to them, not one that hides in the dark. #onpoli

Ontarians need to come together and demand transparency. The courts ruled that Doug Ford’s phone records should be released. Instead of respecting that ruling, his government is now trying to weaken Freedom of Information laws. Why? Our public healthcare system is struggling. Our public education system is struggling. Hospitals are overcrowded, schools are underfunded, and frontline workers are stretched to the limit. Yet somehow this government always finds billions for projects like the Therme spa at Ontario Place, a massive new Toronto convention centre, and the relocation of the Science Centre a move many experts said wasn’t necessary. These are OUR tax dollars. Ontarians have a right to know what deals are being made behind closed doors and who is benefiting from them. Release the phone records.
Colin D'Mello | Global News@ColinDMello

Focus Ontario: The Ford government's changes to the FOI system are being called "shocking" a means to undermine the court ruling into his private cell phone. Global's Isaac Callan breaks it down. #onpoli

Imagine a long line-up at Tim Horton's. Now imagine pulling an employee to a line just serving people willing to pay an extra $50 for a coffee. First, a lot of people can't afford the premium line. 👇👇👇 Second, the line with regular customers is served more slowly. Third, the employees will migrate to the line serving the $50-paying customers. Health care is just like this analogy. As an ER doctor it would be unconscionable I go to the waiting room and ask people waiting 10 hours who would want to pay me $500 to jump to the front of the line. And yet that is what we are talking about. @ianhanomansing cbc.ca/radio/checkup/…
