Did You Know That Russia Isn’t Actually Russia? You might find it hard to believe, but the name "Russia" was stolen from Ukraine. The true name of what we now know as Russia is actually Muscovy. The Origins of Rus and Moscow Ukraine once held the title of the most powerful state in Europe under the name Rus, with its capital in Kyiv. When Kyiv was already a thousand years old, had adopted Christianity, developed legal systems, built churches, and established education, Muscovy was just starting to form among swamps and wild tribes. And who founded Moscow? It was none other than the Kyivan Prince Yuri Dolgorukiy. Initially, the Muscovite Principality was just a region within Ukraine-Rus. Eventually, Rus granted it independence, but it fell under the rule of the Golden Horde. The Rise of Muscovy When the Golden Horde, allied with Muscovites, destroyed much of Rus (Kyiv had to transfer its capital to Lviv after being devastated), the Horde itself later disintegrated due to internal conflicts. That collapse unexpectedly left Muscovy with a state of its own. The philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau once noted that most tribes gradually became nations and built states, but the Muscovite tribe happened to acquire a state by sheer accident. He attributed the Russians' notorious brutality to this anomaly. The Theft of Rus' Legacy With Ukraine weakened, both Poland and Muscovy attacked simultaneously. The eastern part of Rus fell under Muscovite rule, while the west was absorbed by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. These empires fought fiercely for the right to claim the heritage of Rus. It was during this struggle that Peter I issued a decree renaming Muscovy to Russia. Later, Catherine II issued numerous orders falsifying Russian history, fabricating dynasties, and creating a narrative that linked Muscovy directly to Kyivan Rus. As a result of this theft of identity, residents of Rus were given a new name in Western discourse — Ruthenians. Modern Implications To this day, Ukrainians and Belarusians continue to refer to Russians as Moskali. In 2022, Ukrainians launched a petition calling for the official renaming of Russia back to Muscovy, which gained the required number of signatures. However, President Zelenskyy has not yet acted on this matter. Ukraine Has Never Been a Part of Russia Ukraine has always fought for its independence and constantly strived to restore its statehood. You won’t find a period in world history when Ukrainians lacked either their own state or attempts to create one. This very determination is why Poles have historically had mixed feelings about us, and why Russians harbor outright hatred. Russia's Shameful History Russia is ashamed of its own past. Instead of building a narrative of pride and progress, its history is defined by slavery, crimes, and genocides. There are no eras of true glory in Russian history—only oppression and conquest. Many historians argue that this is precisely why Russia continuously seeks to dominate Ukraine: to steal the legacy of Rus and rewrite history in its favor. Without Ukraine, Russia cannot exist as it claims to be. Even Russians themselves admit this. In their propaganda, the Russians try to appeal to the notion that Ukraine did not exist before the USSR. That is, if Ukraine had different names like the Ukrainian People's Republic, Hetmanate, Rus', then it was not Ukraine. This is the same as claiming that the Roman Empire has no relation to Italy, or that the Spanish or French Kingdom is a different state than Spain or France. But by this logic, Russia did not exist before 1991 either, since it had different names before. And even now, there is no state named Russia; it's the Russian Federation, and according to the Russian Constitution, it is a conglomerate of various state-republics, not a single state. This somewhat resembles the USA, but here all the republics were forcibly included due to Russia's occupation of states in wars similar to the current one, followed by the mass extermination of ethnic populations through genocides. The Final Push for Liberation It's time to dismantle this corrupt, bloodthirsty empire once and for all. The world deserves to be free from its destructive influence, and Ukraine stands as a beacon of resistance and hope for that future. 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦 📢 Support the author (me) by subscribing to my Patreon, where you'll find even more exclusive articles and personal stories about my life in Ukraine. 💛💙 (Link in my profile bio) #Ukraine #UkraineWarNews #UkrainianNews

The scale of Russian war crimes is absolutely horrific. During retreat from Kyiv, Russian orcs shot at and burned hundreds cars with civilians. They've been executing everyone, kids, women, pregnant women, elderly. Hundreds and hundreds bodies were recovered later in and around cars. We will never forget and forgive.
