National Prayer Breakfast is a ritual similar to devil worshipping. A prayer breakfast for murderers, pedophiles, homewreckers, rapists, thugs and harlots. You cannot kill, loot and violate human rights and hide behind prayers.

Rachel Ruto says she prayed for a woman in Bungoma who had struggled to get a child, and years later she gave birth to twins. Okay… but how does that improve the lives of Kenyan women today? The Previous First Lady pushed conversations around maternal health, Linda Mama, Beyond Zero, cancer screening, and access to healthcare. You could clearly point at initiatives that touched lives. Today, instead of serious conversations about hospitals, maternity care, women’s health, or the cost of living, we are constantly being fed miracle testimonies and religious narratives. And before people get emotional, twins being born years later is something science and medicine can explain perfectly well. This is exactly why religion is the easiest tool politicians use when they want unquestioning supporters instead of citizens asking hard questions. Maybe I’m wrong, what exactly should the role of a First Lady be in Kenya?

But this 13th Parliament led by Speaker Wetangula is the most useless institution on which we are wasting our taxes. The image of an almost empty Parliament yesterday was deeply disturbing and should be a matter of serious concern to every Kenyan. In a House with nearly 350 Members of Parliament, both elected and nominated, fewer than 20 showed up when the Finance Bill was officially being tabled. Out of those 20, only three stood on the side of the ordinary citizens: Hon. Caroli Omondi CBS, Hon. Ndindi Nyoro and Hon. Millie Mabona. The rest were simply there to collect their sitting allowances, discuss Premier League football and then rush back to their mansions.
