I’m pleased to welcome and support the federal government’s new auto strategy. In the face of President Trump’s tariffs, we need to make our auto sector more competitive. We need to attract new investments to build more vehicles in Canada. We need to create good-paying auto jobs on factory floors across the province. Ontario has been urging the federal government to end its electric vehicle mandate because it made our auto sector less competitive, undermining investment and threatening jobs at a time when the sector is under attack by President Trump. With all that is happening abroad, we need to put Canada First. Yet almost a year after becoming Prime Minister, and promising to diversify markets, Mark Carney has not gotten a single country to reduce a single tariff on Canada. Instead, U.S. tariffs on Canada have doubled, and China and India have increased tariffs on our farmers and fish harvesters. He promised to be a master negotiator. It's all counterfeit.
