@WSJ"Everybody Loves to Hate Dubai." Here’s Why They’re Wrong. The city, under fire from Iran and assailed by critics, is a beacon of opportunity for people around the world. The city faced its first test of war, and it responded with dignity. There was no massive hoarding, no looting or crime spree, no exodus of residents. By day five of the war, Dubai regained its relative composure. Traffic jams returned to the main roads and offices, malls and restaurants were full again. Vital infrastructure, such as power stations and desalination plants remain intact, and even the airport partially reopened to commercial flights. “It is a city where you can be different from each other but live together, where you have an abaya and a bikini side by side on the beach, where everyone can be themselves, be accepted for what they are, and where it is safe to raise my child,” said Olha Danchenkova, a Ukrainian communications professional who moved to Dubai six years ago. Danchenkova said she was impressed by the sense of community in the hour of crisis. On the first day of the war, the psychologist at her daughter’s school reached out with advice on how to calm children’s frayed nerves. WhatsApp message groups traded other advice. At a time when rich Western nations see mass immigration as the font of societal ills, Dubai and other Gulf cities stand as exceptional beacons for foreign talent. If you are an ambitious professional in a developing country—a Syrian doctor, an Egyptian lawyer, a Filipino engineer, and Indian accountant—you stand little chance of quickly securing the visas and permits to work in your profession in the West. But in Dubai, you can, often at salaries that exceed Europe’s. wsj.com/world/middle-e…

So deeply thankful for the return of the hero Ran Gvili. Hamas must never be allowed to rearm. It must not be allowed to maintain the ability to kidnap and murder our people. That would be a betrayal of all we fought for.

AJC mourns the passing of veteran Israeli diplomat Eitan Na’eh on January 19. Ambassador Na’eh served as Israel’s ambassador to Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Bahrain. He also served as head of mission in the UAE following the signing of the Abraham Accords. He was a personal friend to a number of AJC staff and a tireless advocate for the development of Israel’s relations with Islamic and Arab countries based on people to people engagement. AJC sends condolences to his family, his colleagues, and his many friends around the world.

Fronting the press, telling my story of survival. I’m far more accustomed being on the other side of the microphone. But we must keep speaking out, telling our stories and demanding action from our leaders, so that the horrors we saw on Bondi never repeat.

Today at BRIDGE Summit, Dr @Dralnoaimi told us a great story of what a Jewish Rabbi coming from Europe told him when he met him in Dubai. This is what we Emiratis are proud of, not the buildings, roads, etc, but the respect, peace, and harmony. God bless the UAE 🇦🇪

Breaking: The UAE Ministry of Interior firmly rejects any threat to societal security. Emirati authorities have arrested the perpetrators of a Moldovan citizen's murder in record time. Explanation: Zvi Kogen, while holding Israeli citizenship, resided in the UAE as a Moldovan citizen. He was registered and entered the country under his Moldovan passport, and therefore, was treated as a Moldovan national, not an Israeli. To address the fake news: the moment his family contacted authorities, immediate action was taken. My country, the UAE, operates as a nation of law, prioritizing justice over public displays to appease the media. The UAE is home to a diverse community where Muslims, Jews, Christians, and people from over 200 nationalities coexist peacefully. Mosques, churches, and synagogues stand side by side, reflecting the harmony within our society. Additionally, dozens of Jews from diverse backgrounds, including Israelis, operate businesses in Dubai, and hundreds of Jews, including Israelis, live safely and will always enjoy peace in the UAE. Everyone is treated equally, and racism or antisemitism is not tolerated. Zvi’s wife is American, and he held both Moldovan and Israeli passports, making this crime not just an attack on one individual but a crime against the international community. Justice will prevail, and the UAE will demonstrate its unwavering commitment to upholding law and order. To those who doubt or challenge us—be they enemies, frenemies, or friends—do not test the resolve of our beloved nation.
