Stephen Miller…a poli sci major who wrote a college column defending tobacco companies, forgot to take his LSAT, landed on the Southern Poverty Law Center's extremist list, and is best known for separating children from their families - wants you to know he just pulled off "the single largest deregulatory action in history."
He deregulated your right to breathe clean air.
The Endangerment Finding he killed was upheld by the Supreme Court, the D.C. Circuit, and reaffirmed by the National Academies of Sciences last year. Coal PM2.5 has killed 460,000 Americans. It's 2.1x deadlier than other air pollution.
But Stephen defended tobacco in college and he's defending coal now. At least the man has a type: industries that poison people for profit.
Coal costs $69–$169/MWh. Wind costs $27–$53. The Pentagon was just ordered to buy the expensive one. With your money.
The coal industry employs 44,000 people. Clean energy employs 3.5 million.
This isn't deregulation. This is a speechwriter with no law degree and no science background overriding the Supreme Court because the coal CEO asked nicely.

I wasn't clear.
Some folks are pushing a narrative of "ICE are redcoats", "it's like the Boston Massacre".
The Boston Massacre is not a good comparison, because the British soldiers were arrested the next morning. There were immediate consequences for the redcoats.

A lot of folks are comparing the shooting yesterday to the Boston Massacre. During the Boston Massacre, the 300+ protestors were throwing ice and chanting "fire" (ie, "shoot us") at the 9 British soldiers. The British officer in charge, Captain Thomas Preston, was trying to deescalate the situation by dispersing the crowd without firing. Obviously, he failed. All of the soldiers (and Captain Preston) were swiftly arrested the next morning. Despite their quick prosecution, Captain Preston was terrified that he would be lynched by a mob if the jail was stormed, as you can see from a letter of his that I photographed in the British archives below. The same thing happened to Captain John Porteous, an officer jailed following a shooting in Scotland in 1736. Porteous, despite receiving a stay of execution, was lynched by a Scottish mob.
