I think the blended wing concept for a new air refueling tanker will take way too long to actually get into the fleet and start flying missions. A better way to go would be converting the 777-8F to a tanker once they finally get the KC-46 boom straightened out (no pun intended 😂). They’re moving this quickly with the B-21 — is it possible to do the same with the blended wing air refueling tanker? I still doubt it, but what do I know? Diddly. A 777-8F tanker with a boom transplanted from the KC-46 would be low-risk, relatively inexpensive, and should (if the Air Force doesn’t eff up the specs again) be relatively quick. Seems like the safer way to go… but if this B-21 magic can be duplicated, maybe I’m wrong.
