serverless is amazing. you get: - cold starts - 14 dashboards - functions timing out because JSON was 3kb too large - logs delivered sometime between now and your retirement - a billing model based on quantum mechanics all to avoid managing a VPS that has had a working tutorial since 2009

@thsottiaux Long threads + several running at the same time eventually turn the app into a slideshow for me. Really hard to work with. To be fair, I’m on an M1 Pro that’s a few years old now but happens also at work with a new M4 pro

For those of you living inside the codex app, what should we prioritize among features, reliability or performance?

@thsottiaux The most frustrating papercut is having to remember which threads are unread/finished before updating the app and then manually marking them as “unread” once the app has restarted. It would be SO helpful if the unread chats persisted across updates!

Assuming that if I want a Sony XPeria 10 III, I should buy a used one in Japan, vs. buying on eBay (where most of them are shipped from China or Japan anyway). (Reflashing to try w SailfishOS.)

I’d use grok more if it didn’t constantly start in speaker mode. That’s a really terrible product decision by @xAI IMO

My muscle-up coach (Mike Zouth @ YouTube) challenged me to do a set of 3 muscle-ups, 10 straight-bar dips, and 5 pull-ups. Got it! Almost 4 years of serious training now. For ref: 41 years old, 176.2 cm (5'9.5"ish), 69.8 kg (154 lbs), ~10.5%ish body fat

We should federally tax Tokens at the Provider level. Not a lot. Less than 50c per million tokens. It will accomplish 4 things (at least ) 1. It will push the big AI players to optimize tokenization, caching , routing and localization Which will 2. Reduce energy usage. Saving them in energy costs more than what they paid in tax and reducing strain created by the growth in energy consumption Which will 3. Generate maybe 10 billion dollars a year to start, but over the next ten years could grow 30x to 100x Which will 4. Create a source of funding to pay down the federal debt or deploy, in response to the things AI brings that we don’t expect or don’t like At some point the models will pass it on to customers. Of course. That’s ok. Customers will have the ability to choose between providers. Or to do everything using open source models locally. Thoughts ?

Microsoft owning GitHub should be an equally concerning data play for competing labs but their teams are so incompetent none are concerned.

@beffjezos Our recently completed Grok V9 1.5T run is looking great and that is before Cursor data is added in supplemental training

@FrancisPSantora The stretch between Kiba Park and Kiyosumi Gardens is a good walk with similar vibes. Grab some coffee at Monz Cafe near Fukugawa shrine and pick up mochi for later from Fukugawa Iseya.

On a walk last night in Omori, in Tokyo, I came across this beautiful small shrine. It was especially well maintained. The people in the neighborhood did a good job. The evening light filtered through the torii.

I got off the Keikyu Line in Tokyo today at Shinagawa. An elderly man nearly ran into the train to clean it. Maybe this isn't some fancy job But it's because of men like this that Japan is famous.

@FrancisPSantora That place is one of my favorites to take people! The torpedos with cockpits is one of the most jarring things because a grown man can’t fit in it…

Today I went to the Yushukan War Museum. It promotes a lot of discredited narratives around Japanese soldiers in WWII “defending the homeland” when in reality they were waging aggressive war. The museum was almost empty. Half the few visitors were curious white foreigners like me. Just a small handful of Japanese. It smelled musty and old. Japan, like America, has free speech. I don’t agree with the narratives here, but it’s their right to say them.

There is nothing comparable to both my kids breaking into my office, jumping onto my lap - simultaneously mind you - and excitedly telling me about what they did at school. Again, simultaneously. When this ends, I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself.
