After law school I joined a sports marketing startup as the third employee. Helped grow it from $400K to ~$10M/yr. Then in 2020, COVID hit. Revenue tanked overnight. I had to fire my entire team. At the same time (in the same month, may 2020), my first son was born. That’s when I realized: My job wasn’t as secure as I thought. And as a new dad, that was unacceptable to me. Around that time, I started posting online (shoutout to the andy griffith days). I posted mostly things I wanted my newborn son to know as he grew older. To my shock, my accounts grew fast. "This is my path out of a job!" I thought. But there was a problem: I had no idea how to monetize. So for 16 months, I worked 4 extra hours a day, on top of the work I did at my company, with 2 kids under 2, no days off. 4am alarms. 9pm sales calls. Determined to figure it out. My goal was to get to where I had $100K in cash + 3 months of doubled salary as 'proof' that I could succeed on my own. And I failed. Over and over. I had a big audience but no revenue. Launched multiple projects. All flopped. Then, on a whim, I tried selling fitness coaching—on an anonymous Twitter account (yes, with an Andy Griffith avatar). Leads poured in, but no one closed. So I did what I should’ve done months earlier: I invested in myself. I hired a sales coach, and almost immediately, I hit my first $20K month (early 2022) And it immediately made it clear why I had failed all those times before: I wasn’t selling what people actually wanted. I wasn’t charging enough. I was chasing the passive income fantasy that rarely works. Five months later, I hit my revenue targets. In June 2022, I told my CEO I was done. By September, I was free. But I wasn’t out of the woods. Revenue was inconsistent. I chased too many ideas. Finally, in 2024, I burned it all down and focused on one thing: helping dads build real businesses. By that point I'd built several of my own. And it was the one thing people kept asking, unprompted, for my help with. That’s what led to the Incubator. Looking back since I started I've achieved things I didn't believe were possible: ✅ $1M+ in revenue ✅ Hundreds of people helped ✅ Full control of my time ✅ No missed milestones with my kids And probably most important: I don’t ask a boss for permission.
