Reaching net zero by 2050 is often framed as a cost burden. The UK Climate Change Committee’s latest analysis suggests the opposite. The real risk is fossil fuel dependency.

This is why I increasingly suspect that US and EU policymakers will miss the point by focusing on the electromagnetic stack alone. Solar+batteries+motors (even humanoid robots) are important, but they’re the charismatic megafauna that emerges from a thriving industrial ecosystem.

Great article why the US lags behind China on robotics from an engineer who has worked at top labs in both countries. The reason: supply chain, years if not decades worth of it. There’s a “scaling law” for everything incl robotics bc iteration is recursive and multiplies.

The clean energy transformation isn't just a climate goal; it’s a powerful economic engine. Exhibit 1: Clean energy - mostly EVs, batteries, and solar - fueled 1/3 of China’s 2025 GDP growth. Without it, growth would have slumped to just 3.5% carbonbrief.org/analysis-clean…

Very interesting thread on US Biden era efforts to support communities with fossil fuel dependency through the transition- will read with interest, thread highlights need for place based focus like that NZEA is working on

1. Unprecedented funding. The fed government is uniquely positioned to support local efforts to build resilience before/when major industries leave. Programs of the early 2020s (see table) authorized support for fossil fuel–reliant regions at a scale that dwarfs prior efforts.

For centuries, Native people used controlled burns to manage North American forests. In a new interview, ecologist Lori Daniels talks about the long history of Indigenous burning and why the practice must be restored to help prevent catastrophic fires. e360.yale.edu/features/lori-…

Around $2.2 trillion is set to be invested collectively in renewables, nuclear, grids, storage, low-emissions fuels, efficiency & electrification this year. This is twice as much as the $1.1 trillion going to oil, gas & coal. Learn more ➡️ iea.li/43FIxCN

This week China achieved an historic milestone when it became the first country to build 1 TW of solar capacity. While Congress debates rolling back America's best energy policies, China continues to build. 🧵

It's wild to me that Tesla has been publicly doing this for ten years and almost no one has realized that independently controlled behind the meter batteries will do to peaking thermal plants what Uber did to taxis. Every day I'm still hearing that more solar and wind will require more grid build out, that the Spanish grid collapsed because of too much solar, that we have to build more gas assets. I am literally begging you to pick up a pencil and do a page of math. Every $ spent on spinning generation, thermal generation, and grid is a $ wasted. It won't come back. No one will write you a trillion dollar check to bail you out in a few years. Electricity market control is no longer even in the hands of the grid operator. They're caught in the tractor beam of solar + batteries. The outcome is not in doubt.

Tonight, the Powerwall fleet in California dispatched 345MW to the grid during a Virtual Power Plant event, reducing the need for fossil-fueled peaking plants

Pope Francis has been an important voice of the 2010s & 2020s. He has promoted a humanist vision of the global management of common goods. Laudato si is a founding text of Christian commitment to climate action, which has inspired & marked a new generation of committed people 1/2
