@TheMiddleborne “Luring bike thieves into their yard with an unlocked bike” the bike theft version of “she shouldn’t have worn that dress.”

@BravoKiloActual They planned a dive with tourists to 50m? That’s crazy irresponsible. How could this have ended any other way?
English

As someone (yes I’m doing it) who graduated from one of the toughest dive schools in the world and has MANY dives off the California coast (considered to be an extremely challenging/dangerous place to dive)… if dude says “we enter cave at 50 meters” I’m saying… yeah FUCK NO.

🚨 Italy is reeling from the tragedy of five Italians 🇮🇹, including a mother and daughter, in the MALDIVES, who never resurfaced after an exploratory dive A devastating loss that raises a pressing question: are all necessary safety measures being taken in this kind of activity?

@0Beanie05923291 I’m reading the Redwall books to my kids right now. They have a surprising number of characters who did in them. My daughter always cheers when the bad guys die and cries when a good guy dies.

Children don't see and hear things the same way adults do. Adults often cringe at the "violence" of some fairy tales while children cheer on the brave prince as he destroys the evil witch.
For most children, their idea of good and evil hasn't been clouded (jaded?) by considering the impact the witch's "lived experiences" or "childhood trauma" had on her decision to do harm to others. They just know she’s bad.
Rather than protect children from stories that illustrate the obvious good conquering the blatant evil, maybe adults should try to "be like children" at times, stop making excuses for evil, and start unapologetically cheering on the good.
Reading fairy tales to your children will help restore this childlike mindset. I highly recommend it.

@hemingquay Frozen is fairly right wing. Elsa learns the importance of duty and the false promise of freedom through self-expression. Anna is determined and self-sacrificing. Kristof is a goodf, but also brave, strong and kind.
English

@ChocoWino @reddit_lies There are specific aspects of the project (content, accuracy, grammar, etc) that the kids are being evaluated on. These are often set at the state/district level. This teacher is saying that visual appeal and creativity aren’t in the “standards” so they can’t be considered.
English

@reddit_lies I feel like I'm not clicking on something obvious here, but what does this part mean: "if it's not standard it can't be graded."
I'm guessing it means you can't give a bad grade, which I got from the rest of the post, but the phrasing on that last line eludes me.

@Andrewnsnyder Agree on the films. Andor really felt different to me. It was pretty interesting seeing them think through how power operates in a totalitarian regime. How bureaucracy, fear, and apathy combine to sustain the Empire. How tenuous and ambivalent the resistance could be.

The original Star Wars trilogy is great because it operates on a significantly archetypal level as Luke goes on his hero's journey to rescue his father from the underworld.
The prequels were not what they could have been, but their relative value has increased over time. They do some things well, but they really could have thrived as an intense drama about disordered loves and the fault lines of democracy.
From this point forward, the movies and shows are basically just about "stuff happening," which is why none of this media will have real staying power. Some of it is better than others, and I still find a bit of it mildly entertaining, but the franchise has lost most of its substance.

@3lectricBrawl I ended up buying a Hyundai Ioniq 5. The main reason was that FSD isn’t a priority and with financing/incentives, the Hyundai was about $15k less than the comparable Model Y (SEL RWD vs Premium RWD).
English

@Andrewnsnyder And or is my favorite Star Wars production outside of the original trilogy. It’s very good.

@KINGGGE_ Technically he becomes Gandalf the White during the events of Fellowship. He is resurrected and arrives in Lothlorien shortly after the fellowship leaves. He’s only revealed to Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli (and the reader) in The Two Towers.

@Post_Meridem @Old_Swanner @DivinelyDesined This actually strengthen the argument being made. 10^77/10^40 is 10^37. 10 with another 36 zeros after it. If 10^40 were a little more than half of 10^77 then the result would be a little less than 2, not 10^37. It’s way harder to randomly search proteins than the post suggests.

People are asking for the math that makes evolutionary theory impossible.
Let's give the people what they want!
Here is why the evolutionary origins of all the molecular machines in your cells is mathematically impossible👇
Divinely Designed@DivinelyDesined
There is not enough time in all the universe for evolution to build even one of these molecular machines, let alone thousands. Mathematically impossible. Evolutionary theory is dead.

@BMcGrewvy I would say Forrest Frank is a Christian musician whose music has broken through into the mainstream (at some level). I hear his music in secular settings, birthday parties, baseball game walk up songs. A lot of kids and teens (many of whom are not Christian) love his music.

@TeawithTolkien I played the LOTR Trivial Pursuit with some friends and did horribly because it was based on the films, not the books. So a few times I answered with book lore rather than film lore 🤦
