@ConnerSennettCH @pipkinpippa it feels like you're framing this as "vtubers are so paranoid, nobody else cares about anonymity so why should they" when the real question should be "why isn't everyone protecting their anonymity"

@TunasAladBBC @JTAlexander (2/2) language, whereas with sight reading you'd have to memorize each word individually. phonics wins again.

@TunasAladBBC @JTAlexander sight reading won't help an English speaker with Russian, either. it's almost like literacy is based on language or something. but if there are a lot of loanwords from a particular language, learning how those words are pronounced can help with other loanwords from that (1/2)

The whole point of phonics, as opposed to sight words, is that you can read words you’ve never seen before. You don’t even know how illiterate you actually are.
DanhausensByProxy@pipes_46

@sharghzadeh Wouldn't fault anyone for not knowing the word "gauche" at all. "Silhouette" is a bit less forgivable but maybe understandable that you just haven't seen it in print. But having no idea about the word "extraordinary" is jaw-droppingly bad.

@goodcalzone @MariGO2thepolls "all the corporate bullshit" like paying employees you're right, if the corporations didn't have to pay their workers, their profit margins would be higher, but that's a retarded take for a number of reasons

@MariGO2thepolls yeah it's almost like all of the profit is being siphoned of at every level, just like I said. The "profit margin" when you eliminate all the corporate bullshit, as in only the wholesale cost vs public sale price, is often 100% or more.

@WiseguyThreeOne @Aliathewhite @Variety the interview clip he posted is talking about Robocop, a 1987 movie, and shows that Hollywood was already concerned about having villains be black or Hispanic at that time

Antonio Banderas came to Hollywood and "they said, ‘You are here, like the Blacks and the Hispanics, to play the bad guys.'" "The problem was a few years later I had a mask, hat, sword and cape [as Zorro] and the bad guy was Captain Love, who was blond and had blue eyes. Even more important is ‘Puss in Boots,’ because it’s for young kids. They see a cat that has a Spanish, even an Andalusian accent and he’s a good guy.” (via The Times of London) variety.com/2026/film/news…

@Erik_Haile @amiyaaranha actually, your definition shows that old games/consoles should *not* be considered retro; that would be new games made in the style of old games. the word we should be using for old games/consoles is 'vintage'.

@amiyaaranha My main issue with discounting age to a secondary concern is that the definition of "Retro", the adjective, is ": relating to, reviving, or being the styles and especially the fashions of the past : fashionably nostalgic or old-fashioned". By definition,

@peech84313271 @MidwestTenshi @EdViperOfficial @kyomu_utsuro not sure how Clara being able to get along with people who mostly agree with her politically would mean she can get along with anyone, but the fact she called Jelly an insufferable pick-me asshole and white supremacist pretty clearly indicates she can't, actually.

Don't agree with the announcement, but the reaction to this is predictably hilarious. Most of these "fans" still don't know the difference between a PL you dig up vs a vtuber's official account from the company's perspective regardless of how you feel about the subject matter. Seeing 90% of the posts citing this false comparison is an unflattering view of media literacy. Phase will be just fine, because I'm sure those who threatened to leave because Pippa didn't cuss out Clara like they pressured her to last year are still around now to get mad about this one.

@Popingheads @kyomu_utsuro @Lets_Talk_Karma @ProctorZ pretty much every stream Kir has disagreements with her chat, and yet her fans support her. what was meant by consistency is that her opinions haven't changed, she has consistently believed the same things and held the same values for the eightish years she's been streaming.

@kyomu_utsuro @Lets_Talk_Karma @ProctorZ The point on consistency is fascinating. Because it does seem to happen in all groups. Its a common occurrence that someone who takes even a single view contrary to their sides' standard is excluded from said group. And anyone that has no variance in views is questionable to me.

Here's the real reason why VTubers talking about politics is frowned upon. No. it's not about entertainment escapism, kayfabe or lofty ideals like "artistic integrity". It's simply because viewers are POWERLESS against what is ultimately going to happen to western VTubing. They know it, and they know that there's nothing they can do about it. The truth is that VTubers are EXTREMELY poised to grift for politics. They are unfortunately almost the perfect vessels for it, because: 1. Politics shapes what people do by controlling what they feel. 2. VTubers shape what people feel, and that’s exactly what politics rewards. VTubers are uniquely equipped to dominate political engagement. Emotional calibration, narrative framing, parasocial influence. Everything that makes them appealing to audiences is exactly how politics works. They can “win” at political influence more effectively than most actors on the internet. Although this is probably true for content creators in general, some of these elements are especially amplified in VTubing due to the culture in which it resides. When a VTuber starts signaling politics, you often see viewers react viscerally, often with disgust or fatigue. This isn't because the VTuber is morally wrong (yes, I have to be objective here even though you and I probably do think some of them are human garbage). Viewers sometimes do not say more than a simple "stay out of politics", but there's something else that drives this emotional response. It's because deep down, they sense the structural inevitability that pragmatic incentives funnel every creator toward political affect. They know that even sincere intentions like appealing to morality, fairness, or “what’s right” ultimately converge on emotional reinforcement of political narratives, because that’s what the medium rewards. The audience's negative gut reaction is essentially an intuitive acknowledgment of powerlessness against the system. They see the trend: VTubers are naturally OPTIMIZED to signaling for politics, and profit/fame awaits those who lean into it. No amount of preaching about entertainment purism or artistic integrity can change this fact. Right now, it may appear to be a strictly indie/smaller VTuber thing while the bastions of big corpos haven't fallen yet, but I think the viewers know deep down that the ultimate content convergence to politics and the death of VTuber entertainment is an inevitability, and that's why they feel so uneasy. So, no. When people say "VTubers shouldn't do politics", it isn't just about purism or VTuber traditions. It's a cry for help born from the audience's awareness of the structural trap. What VTubers are good at doing is also the thing that ultimately corrodes the neutral, enjoyable space that drew the audience in the first place. VTubers, when your viewers are telling you to stay out of politics, they are begging for mercy, and they know you will not give it to them.

Machiavellian realism maybe? I just think power is the only real currency in politics and all the theories, factionism, ideologies, and systems of government people hold dear are just manufactured distractions to keep midwits busy in their delusions of personal political relevance. But what do I know. I'm just a dumb woman with a demanding job drawing conclusions from life and work experiences. I'm sure the jobless people who sperg out about politics all day have much smarter sounding things to say.
LowRogue🍵🗿@LowRogue

@kyomu_utsuro I believe I've said it previously, but I think it bears repeating: I'm here for the unfiltered takes. I am now curious, however. If you had to label yourself politically, which label would you choose?

@Gabriru_fan @kyomu_utsuro about her model, keep in mind that improving it would require artists/riggers to be willing to work with her. her commissions get rejected, and artists ghost her even after accepting on a regular basis. just having money isn't always enough.

@kyomu_utsuro @Izkirrakar i would argue that RW vtubers make more individually, but less collectively; that the reason they make so much is because there isn't much competition; and that if there were as many openly RW as there are LW, the relative incomes would be more balanced. i could be wrong, though.

I do enjoy how most of the comments still think that I'm shitting on woke vtubers specifically when insiders all know who makes more, and are completely willing to make peace with politics in vtubing as long as they agree with it. So based on the reaction to the post I would the say the future is grim, because these people bring traffic and real vtuber fans will suffer.

@CypressDahlia @clearfails @BoldfaceJames @megalarper part of JP business culture is trusting your partners. if there isn't an obvious problem to prompt it, most JP companies won't ever check over western translations, because doing so would be admitting they don't trust their partners to do their jobs well.

Dobunezumi and hatsukanezumi are not the same. They only colloquially share the same base word for it due to morphological similarities. What we find really baffling is that the names for one's relatives have no distinguishers for European languages. Brother can be older or younger. Aunt can be from your mom's side or the dad's side, and no different word for if the aunt is younger than or older than your parent who is their sibling. Same for uncle. Maternal and paternal grandpa have no differential colloquial names and it makes you look autistic if you actually said "paternal grandpa" in real life.

Easy. If the characters in sex scenes are attractive/made by eastern devs, then they are "porn games" or "gooner games". If they are ugly and made by western devs, then they have "artistic value" and are "integral to the plot". Bonus points if the ugly sex scenes also push political agenda It's not that deep.
AphantasticRabbit Failship Offspring Arc@AphantasticR

In your opinion, is any game that features full sex scenes a porn game? For example the sexual content in the original Fate/Stay Night and Baldur's gate are equitable in comparison to the non-sex bits, and yet one would feel weird calling Baldur's Gate a porn game.
