@248_Grey @mike_bechthold @CanWarMuseum No argument there, either. It definitely does have its uses.

@rcaf_foundation @mike_bechthold @CanWarMuseum Thanks! It really helped to be able to find a date for the original photograph, which then led to newspaper articles about the event. The ribbons for the CB and CBE that @papadelta23 mentioned also helped confirm the ID, as did the hair, ears, and moustache.

@OTDCanMilHis Did someone say riot? From the Hamilton Spectator, 11 May 1945, mentioning V-E Day-related riots in New Waterford, Sydney, and Liverpool, Nova Scotia, in addition to Halifax. Full article at collections.warmuseum.ca/warclip/object…

@mike_bechthold I'll suggest A/V/M A.L. Morfee, who is mentioned in newspaper accounts as representing Wilfred Curtis at a reception for the Flyers in Ottawa on 7 April 1948.

@OTDCanMilHis And of course WLMK mentions in his diary for 11 September: "A pleasant incident, this morning, was the friendliness of little Falla. He evidently smelt Pat on my trousers. He kept walking around wagging his tail, taking very close sniffs." central.bac-lac.gc.ca/.redirect?app=…

@OTDCanMilHis You're welcome! Another National Archives blog entry has the photo as well, and gives the date as 11 September 1944: prologue.blogs.archives.gov/2015/08/26/the…

@OTDCanMilHis @Alan_Allport It also gave rise to one of a series of early-war Canadian jigsaw puzzles depicting "Canada at War" -- "Canadian Highlanders Escape from France," @canwarmuseum 20050114-001, warmuseum.ca/collections/ar…

Looking forward to presenting today about the history of this Soviet torpedo from the @canwarmuseum's collection -- as well as other Soviet naval weapons brought to Canada from North Korea via Japan in 1951 -- at the 33rd Canadian Military History Colloquium at @studyofcanada.

@Arn_Keeling @dr_cdeutsch Their 1980s albums include Red Sails in the Sunset (1984), which has "Who Can Stand in the Way" and some other possibilities, but it may have received less airplay outside of Australia than later albums like Diesel and Dust (which also offers some well-known possibilities).
