🚨 Arne Slot of if he has reached the lowest point of his Liverpool reign:
“I have already thought a few times that we hit the worst point, or the lowest point.
"Because many times I have said - and actually I still feel this about Wednesday as well - that the score does not reflect the way we played. So every time you are thinking we can keep playing the same but hopefully do better because this team should - and can - play better than we do. Make no mistake about that.
"It is not that we perform at the highest standards we can perform at. But you should expect that given the quality we have, that we have reached the lowest point a few times."

Arne Slot:
“It’s clear we didn’t have the run of form that was expected of us or we expected from ourselves. It’s always a bit harder and that’s why I was so happy that we had a few home games because in that run of form, there was only one home game and that was United and that was till today I found we lost that game mainly because we were unlucky. Not everyone agrees on that but that’s my take.”

I think a lot of fans online were severely unfair on Núñez and that contributed to him not achieving the heights we thought he would.
He wasn’t nearly as bad technically as people insisted. He was capable of smart things too, despite the caricature of him being not so smart.
Yes, he obviously wasn’t as graceful as prime Berbatov and he did do stupid things sometimes but he never needed to be anybody but himself and fans should have encouraged that, rather than relentlessly tearing into him when he missed a chance or whatever. That’s literally our job as fans, to support the players.
Salah and Virgil today had quotes released about how younger players find it harder to enjoy the game because they check social media and the pressure that comes from there is immense.
It became quite clear with Darwin that the Haaland vs Núñez thing was a massive pressure source in his first season (evidenced by his explosive celebration when he scored in the Community Shield).
From there the pressure only mounted on him, after the red card in his first game at Anfield. Those early moments pretty much set him down the path of mental fragility. You could see he wasn’t quite at ease, either trying too hard or beating himself up too much when mistakes were made or chances missed.
Ultimately, he can and probably will be a top top striker. He will probably mature into one of the best strikers in the world, like Cavani did when he hit his prime.
It’s sad that it won’t be at LFC. He has an amazing heart and soul and I’m sure everyone at Kirkby will be sad to see him go.
I just hope for fans sake, we can learn to be more patient with other players if they are faced with the same pressures placed on Núñez.
