I have a moderate interest in watching the Super Bowl but I have a greater interest in going for a 3-4 hour ride when every passive-aggressive pickup-driving dude in Los Angeles County is watching television.

@Pflax1 The biggest problem is you'll just keep going faster and still be destroyed. At least I've never figured it out.

One of my bike related goals for 2023 is to be able to get fit enough do a semi-hard four-hour ride and not spend the rest of the day laying around eating and mumbling to myself. A long way to go LOL.

@notjustbikes It's kind of the reality on a big part of my route, say 8 trips a week. The maybe once or twice I get caught up in that cycle it stinks (I generally just stop to let it get a good gap or go really hard for a bit). Most of the time there's simply no bus and hey it's a nice space.

@driversofnyc I would even settle for the street plows not throwing everything onto the sidewalks. Even when people try their best to clear them, it becomes a futile battle as nasty ice is piled on regularly.

If the problem is that millions of drivers still aren't aware that existing laws allow bike riders to take the full lane on nearly every street in America, maybe the solution is to upgrade how drivers are educated?

@AdamMyerson I was thinking the same thing. There’s nothing more mainstream and conforming than creating a Hall of Fame to recognize achievements and pat each other on the back. I thought gravel was all about riding bikes off the grid and drinking beers after?

The fact that many popular bike routes in Los Angeles and so many other North American cities are exponentially scarier on trash day says a lot about the priorities of our civic institutions.

If cities are expected to clear streets, they should be expected to clear sidewalks and bus stops. Why should only car travel be a service when 100% of taxpayers are pedestrians? Have a good night.
