Vilafonté Series M & Vilafonté Series C dominate our Top 5 luxury red wine sales in Sandton Central and the San Deck at the Sandton Sun and Towers. The other top luxury red wines are:
Rupert & Rothschild Baron Edmond, Meerlust Estate Rubicon, Kanonkop Estate Paul Sauer. In 6th place, a distant second, won't mention the rest, they're just filler. Making exceptional Bordeaux-inspired blends is one thing, but resonating with high-end Johannesburg consumers is another level. Many wineries fall short due to weak marketing, poor brand engagement, and inconsistent relationships with HORECA buyers.

Vilafonte Paarl Series M 2013
Thirteen years has allowed the @Vilafonte 2013 Series M to find its true voice. 🍷 Darjeeling tea, earthy depth, & tight tannins. A 95-point masterclass in Malbec-driven longevity.
The big question: will 2023 follow in the footsteps of 2013?
The pedigree says yes. 🇿🇦

CORRUPTION LECTURE 🎓😭
Guys do u you have moment, I just want to remind you how corrupt leaders operate… in this country
Step 1: They never own anything in their name. No no, that’s for honest citizens 😭
They register luxury SUVs, houses, businesses in children, cousins, uncles, even that one relative who only appears at funerals
Step 2: When caught, they say “it was a donation” bonus points if you mention an organisation nobody can trace 😭..
Step 3: Forget declarations. Transparency is for textbooks, not real life
Step 4: Payments? Please don’t insult them with bank trails… it’s cash, eWallets, “facilitation fees”, and silent handshakes 🤝💸
Step 5: If questions come, they act shocked… “me?? never!! must be a misunderstanding” and just like that… public money goes on a family tour while citizens are told to be patient..

@simsilwana Their 32 year track record says otherwise! Bring back the technikons, teach people to make a living for life. Plumbers, electricians, builders. Many are not university material, and many who get degrees are not employable.
English

@abelmike Now now Mike! As taxpayers we are perfectly within our rights to ask ‘public servants’ to explain themselves and be held accountable. We have had enough of being stitched up by incompetent politicians, dumped on us by their party, to look after their parties interests.

Well, it’s an interesting question Jeremy, so I looked up the answer. It seems Mr Dunga has no financial qualifications at all.
This is then quite an odd decision then, given a R179 billion overhead budget is bigger than that of any corporate in South Africa (who are filled with actuaries, economists and CA’s).
One would imagine having responsibility for 7% of the full national budget, who be placed in the hands of someone who had the qualifications and experience to do this, and had not been fired by the very same party, for not being able to handle that budget efficiently nor effectively.
But maybe I’m just too simple to understand the logic of it all?

Truly mysterious how local politics works.
Is this not the very same Nkululeko Dunga who was fired as Ekurhuleni Finance MMC by ANC Mayor Xhakaza in 2024 who now lands the whole Gauteng Finance MEC job?
Did I miss the part where his track record suddenly improved, or is “coalition politics” a new qualification on its own?
The one area that needs critical focus in Gauteng right now, as literally everyone knows, is the judicious allocation of funds to fix infrastructure.
Will this help fix Gauteng? How will his R179 billion budget be allocated?

It seems a real pity, given SARS collected R155 billion more this past year, than the previous tax year.
That although money is efficiently collected, it is then placed in the hands of people who don’t have the qualifications, experience nor track record it seems, to judiciously deploy those funds effectively, and with good governance, in the economic heartland of South Africa.
All rather worrying and perplexing.

@ConCaracal And how much did the SOE’s cost us? Collectively it must be huge. The money could be better spent to create growth by collaborating more closely with the private sector.

NEW: My daughters asked me what I’d be writing about on my Substack this week. I said Trump and Spring. They exchanged the look - the one that means here she goes - and retreated into their bedrooms.
Fair enough.
