We are pleased to announce that through our digital infrastructure business, we have joined a US$45 million Series A round for ORAN Development Company (ODC), a US startup building AI-native RAN tech, alongside @nvidia , @Cisco , @nokia , @ATT , @BoozAllen Hamilton and Telecom Italia (@TIM_Official ). This funding will turbocharge ODC’s mission to turn cell towers into edge AI compute hubs, enabling AI workloads locally for faster insights and richer services. ODC’s AI-RAN platform sits on Nvidia’s AI Aerial stack for high-performance, software-defined 5G.
For MTN, the move marks a bold leap toward next-gen networks with the potential to transform African markets.
“AI-RAN can deliver intelligence from cities to rural villages,” said @Mazen_Mroue , CEO of MTN Digital Infrastructure, highlighting a decisive shift toward sovereign AI—locally hosted compute that strengthens resilience and accelerates financial inclusion, industrial autonomy, and local innovation.
This is a landmark moment for Africa’s digital future as we continue to lead digital solutions for Africa’s progress.
Exciting times ahead.

“For many decades, nothing happens… and then there are weeks where decades happen.”
In the latest episode of #TheYelloChair, @Ralph Mupita reflects on the volatility of today’s geopolitical environment — and what it means to operate across multiple markets.
From navigating geopolitics to managing complex realities in leading a business like MTN, he shares:
“Often there’s a narrative that says, ‘just abandon operation in Iran, but that action can actually increase more risk... We would be hopeful that the opportunity does come where we are able to fully exit, so we complete our strategy and can fully focus on Africa.”
It’s a candid look at resilience, risk, and the discipline required to stay focused in uncertain times.

As leaders, we must meet that moment.
This means being intentional about who we hire, who we sponsor and who we create opportunities for. It also means ensuring that as AI shapes our future, leadership remains grounded in empathy, accountability and inclusion.
Because there is no scenario where business succeeds if society is left behind.

It was good to reconnect with Ralph Mupita, President/CEO @MTNGroup, alongside Karl Toriola, CEO, MTN Nigeria and other MTN executives yesterday. A strong, reliable and future-ready telecoms sector is essential to economic growth and innovation, so our conversation centered around the strategic role of the telecoms sector in our government’s plans to deliver a $1 Trillion economy.
There was clear alignment among all parties on the need to improve quality of service for Nigerians, while also ensuring the long-term sustainability of the telecoms industry. I look forward to our continued engagement with MTN on all our initiatives for the growth of the sector.

Today, MTN joins the world in observing the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, marking the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
This year’s UNiTE theme, “End digital violence against all women and girls,” is a powerful reminder that technology must be part of the solution-not another barrier.
At MTN, we are committed to supporting GBV organisations and scaling tech-enabled solutions that drive healing, safety and connection for survivors. We continue to zero-rate critical GBV support platforms to ensure women and girls can access help, information and counselling whenever they need it.
Because safer digital spaces start with ensuring every survivor can reach support, reclaim their power, and begin the journey toward healing.
To strengthen this global movement, we’re calling for a collective reset: CTRL + ALT + HEAL — a reminder to rethink what we share, how we respond, and how we help create safer digital communities for all.
