New from me: AI Minister Evan Solomon had said Canada's new national AI strategy would come in the first quarter. It hasn't. The policy is "ready to go," with room for updates, he said today, attributing delays to world events and parliamentary business. thelogic.co/briefing/new-a…

🚨The UK's push for mandatory age-verification is threatening the very foundation of the open internet. Under the Online Safety Act, platforms like Wikipedia could soon be forced to ID check their users, effectively being anonymous editing. This would not just destroy the world's largest encyclopedia - it would expose volunteer contributors to data breaches, harassment, and even imprisonment by authoritarian regimes. Wikipedia relies on a diverse and often anonymous pool of editors to challenge bad actors and keep information accurate. We cannot let the government strangle the digital public square in the name of "safety". Read the full piece by @edtarnowski in @spectator below ⤵️ spectator.com/article/age-ve…

@Cory_Boehm They definitely have options. PMO says they don't have plans to prorogue but we'll see if a plan suddenly emerges after April 13...

@jdtabish It also feels like if the Liberals don't get a majority from the byelection there may be a fall federal election.

In the coming days, Canada's opposition parties are going to have to decide whether they support Bill C-22, the #LawfulAccess Act. They--and all Canadians--need to consider whether this massive surveillance infrastructure is what we want. Or will tolerate.
