@realEstateTrent Be careful it still could be a scam. It May not be their account but they have a checkbook from the auto company and wrote a fake check to you.
They will ask you to send them a portion of the money back. Then the actual company will cancel the check.

Actual phone call I just got: Me: “Hello” Them: “I’m actually calling because we’re an auto dealer in Fremont, CA, and you sold us your car in 2022” Me: “Okay” (confused and convinced it’s a scam or something was terribly wrong with the car” Them: “Well we still owe you $9,300, and we’d like to verify your mailing address so we can send a check” I asked a bunch of questions and it all checked out. Then: Me: “This is great, when will you be sending the check?” Them (and these were his exact words): “Bro it’s been three years, do you really need it that fast??” 🤣
