NAMIBIAN GROWN BANANAS NOW AVAILABLE ON THE SHELVES | The second most widely consumed fruit in Namibia is now being locally produced and is available for purchase at Checkers Maerua Mall. In collaboration with AvaGro Etunda Green Scheme and a local wholesaler, a total of 2.5 tonnes of bananas were recently harvested from the Etunda trial site on 08 May 2026, following their planting in January 2025. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has extended condolences to the Hai-||Om Traditional Authority and the family over the death of Hai-||Om San traditional leader, Chief David ||Khamuxab ||Khamuxab (75) died on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. President Nandi-Ndaitwah, in a statement, said the late San traditional leader served his community with humility and a deep sense of responsibility since ascending to the position in 2004. “His leadership formed part of the broader national effort to preserve indigenous cultures, strengthen social cohesion and ensure that all communities remain an integral part of Namibia’s democratic and developmental journey," she said, adding that the late ||Khamuxab will be remembered as a custodian of the Hai-||Om heritage and identity. “As a nation, we mourn alongside the Hai-||Om San community during this difficult time," said Nandi-Ndaitwah.
