in terms of representation, i’ll go to the mat in saying that Wes Studi in HEAT is by far the most radical image of an Indigenous person in the realm of mainstream Hollywood cinema, simply from the fact that his ethnicity is never even brought up or plays any role in what unfolds

For anyone worried about talking to their white children right now—worried that their kid is too young for these conversations—I was 5 or 6 when my Dad told me “no matter what you do, some people will always hate you.” Black children don’t get to not understand racism.
