How the Senate handles the SAVE America Act—especially in light of recent news highlighting the severity of the noncitizen-vote problem—could impact not only the November midterm elections, but also the Senate GOP leadership elections that will follow shortly thereafter. Leaders must lead. And if they don’t, they’re not leaders.

Nine percent of Americans have confidence in Congress. Sixty-seven percent have confidence in small business. That gap is the whole story, and it has nothing to do with left and right. Look at who Americans still trust. Small business at 67. The military at 61. The police at 45. Every one of them builds something or protects someone. A small business makes a product and dies if nobody wants it. A soldier defends a country. A cop shows up when you call. They get judged on whether the job actually got done. Now look at the bottom. Congress at 9. Television news at 14. Newspapers at 17. One defrauds you. The other lies to you about it. Neither builds anything. Neither protects anyone. And neither one is ever punished for being wrong. That is not an opinion. Here is what Congress presides over. The GAO estimates the federal government loses between 233 and 521 billion dollars every single year to fraud. Not waste. Fraud. Improper payments have hit roughly 3 trillion dollars since 2003. Last year alone was 186 billion. Congress has not balanced a budget since 2001. Nine percent is not cynicism. It is an accurate grade. Gallup started asking this question in 1973, during Watergate, with a president on his way to resigning. Congress scored 42 percent that year. In 2014 it hit 7, the lowest reading Gallup has ever recorded for any American institution. Watergate was a scandal. This is a business model. The press sits right next to them for the same reason. Thirty-four percent of Americans say they have no trust in the news media at all. Twenty-eight percent say they have a great deal or a fair amount. Americans have not lost faith in their country. They still trust the man who fixes the engine. The sergeant. The woman who owns the shop. They stopped trusting the people who take from them and lie about where it went. That is not cynicism. That is a country that can still tell the difference.

They did not cancel Sophie Cunningham for saying that women have a right to fair competition against other members of their sex class because the statement is overwhelmingly popular, supported by 80 percent of the public as a whole and a supermajority of Democrats, because it aligns with the polices of the International Olympic Committee, World Athletics, the Women's Tennis Association, and 27 of 50 of the United States, the latter laws having had their constitutionality validated by the US Supreme Court, and because it is a reasonable and correct opinion that aligns with biological reality, and because the load-bearing claim upon which trans inclusion in women's sports rests -- that men who say they are women are women by virtue of the claim -- is not true, the whole world knows it, and the whole world is reclaiming its right to say aloud what it knows to be true and to act on the basis of what is true. They did not cancel Sophie Cunningham for saying that women have a right to fair competition against members of their own sex class because the decade-long campaign of gaslighting and defamation has finally reached the limit of its power to impose an astroturfed pseudo-consensus onto the behavior of corporations, because holders of reasonable and correct opinions have found their voices and lost their fear and proved that when given an opportunity to put an end to a regime of preference falsification enforced by campaigns of defamation against those stating reasonable and correct opinion, they will take that opportunity and make their preferences clear. They did not cancel Sophie Cunningham for saying that women have a right to fair competition because she is a luminous star, a competent basketball role player who just happens to have as much beauty and charisma as any Hollywood movie star of old, and anything she touches will turn to gold. Her sneaker sold out within the first hour of its release in every size.

In 1985 two scientists won the Nobel Prize for proving something that should have changed medicine forever. Brown and Goldstein showed that your immune system cannot even see normal LDL. Native LDL floats through your blood and your body ignores it. The scavenger receptor is locked. No recognition. No uptake. No disease. Eight people sealed themselves in a glass dome to prove humanity could feed itself on plants, and spent two years starving in front of the world's press. Biosphere 2 cost a hundred and fifty million dollars. Three acres of Arizona desert under sealed glass, eight crew, door shut on 26 September 1991, nothing in or out for two years. The farm inside was worked intensively and by any agronomic measure it was superb, out-producing the most efficient smallholder farming on earth by a wide margin. It produced 83 per cent of what they needed. Which left Roy Walford, the crew doctor, in a sealed box with seven hungry colleagues and his own life's work. Walford was a UCLA pathologist who had spent thirty years arguing that severe calorie restriction extends lifespan. He had doubled it in mice. And here was reality handing him his own hypothesis with the door welded shut. So he called it a health programme. The menu became vegetables, half a glass of goat's milk a day, and meat or fish about once a week. The men lost close to a fifth of their body weight, the women about a tenth. And the markers Walford cared about behaved impeccably: blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides all down at least twenty per cent, into ranges any doctor would frame. He published it in PNAS in 1992. The bloodwork was magnificent. The people were falling apart. Jane Poynter wrote the book afterwards. Fatigue, depression, mental fog, and a preoccupation with food that ate the entire interior life of the crew. They stole from each other. They split into two factions that stopped speaking. The ecological research the building had been constructed for was largely abandoned by people who no longer had the headroom for anything past the next meal. The ants and cockroaches, by contrast, were thriving. The air was leaving too. Oxygen started at 20.9 per cent and kept dropping and nobody knew where it was going. Columbia eventually worked it out: the concrete was quietly eating it. So oxygen had to be pumped in from outside, which is an interesting result for a sealed world. Walford's verdict on the mutiny is the whole thing in one sentence. He said afterwards that any other physician aboard would have panicked and declared they were starving, but that he knew they were on a programme of health enhancement. He knew. Seven other people, visibly wasting, were simply mistaken. He came out in 1993, developed ALS, blamed the conditions inside, and died in 2004 aged 79 after years on 1,600 calories a day in pursuit of a longer life. The mice got double. He did not make it to average for an American professor. Every argument you have heard this decade was already in that building. Grow it locally. Take the animals out. Eat less. Watch the numbers improve. Eight of the most motivated humans alive, handed three acres of the best-managed farmland on the planet and no meat, could not feed themselves. The press reported the fighting as a personality clash.

Someone explain this to me slowly, because I'm clearly the idiot here. We plant a Mediterranean nut in a Californian desert. It doesn't rain there, so we drain a ten-thousand-year-old aquifer until the ground itself sinks a foot a year and whole towns get shorter. The trees can't fight off fungus, so we spray the lot. They can't pollinate themselves, so every February we truck thirty billion bees across a continent and let a fair share of them die in the crush. Then we chill the harvest and sail it six thousand miles to Britain, where it rains constantly and always has, to be blitzed with water and gums and sold to you at £2.40 a carton with a green leaf on the side. That is the environmentally friendly option. Twelve miles down the road there's a bloke with cattle in a field. Rain falls on the hill. Grass drinks it. Cow eats grass. Nothing pumped, sprayed, chilled or shipped. No bees died. Her entire supply chain is weather. That is the planetary emergency. Up until the 1980's, Social Security cards expressly stated the number and card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the "NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION" message was removed. Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. His promises are in black, with updates in brackets. 1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary [No longer voluntary], 2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program [Now 7.65% on the first $90,000, and 15% on the first $90,000 if you’re self-employed], 3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year [No longer tax deductible], 4.) That the money the participants put into the independent ‘Trust Fund’ rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program [Under Johnson the money was moved to the General Fund and spent], and 5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income [Under Clinton & Gore up to 85% of your Social Security can be taxed]. Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month — and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to ‘put away’ — you may be interested in the following: Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent ‘Trust Fund’ and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it? A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate. Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding? A: The Democratic Party. Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities? A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the ‘tie-breaking’ deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US AND MY FAVORITE: Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants? A: That’s right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it! Now, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it! If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, though. Some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn’t so — but it’s worth a try. How many people can YOU send this to?
