A note: Today is my last day at the Omaha World-Herald after 23 years with the newspaper. I start at UNMC Strategic Communications next week. I leave with nothing but gratitude for everything the OWH has given me.

The Gene Leahy Mall is opening this Friday, July 1 – and Metro can help you get to and from the celebration! Special credit goes to @OmahaRiverFront for the beautiful sunset pic 😍 Visit ow.ly/Hf8s50JK5py to see a list of routes that can take you to the Riverfront.

@Mey_BA11 Interesting. Is it climate controlled where you sit and eat? Or just out in the open?

@Mey_BA11 Hadn't thought of this from a precaution standpoint. What's the restaurant layout? How open is the eating area? Thanks!

The OWH hired me in 2008 and I figured this was it. I never even kept a resume — I had my dream job! But life has a funny way of reshaping perspectives/goals without you even realizing it … until one day, it hits you like a football to the face: It’s time for something new ✌🏽

@NaomiHattaway Hi, Naomi! Just wanted to emphasize this point. You can take the survey online. Or you can take the survey at a branch. Double-checked that specifically. The library's notice seems to say you take it online at a branch.

Update per @jeffreyrobb's OWH article today: ***For those who want to give input but cannot attend the forums, a survey will be available online and at library branches starting Oct. 1.

From the priorities page of my City Council campaign website: The Library is one of the last listed in the Omaha City budget, yet it is a SO very important part of our city vibrancy. For the twelve libraries in Omaha, the annual library budget is just shy of $32M. /more

@MarianFey Right. That's a lot of the confusion (I think). One issue (of many) is what happens if significant private funding pours into the library. And if a private/nonprofit library starts formally partnering with the public OPL.

@fourtotheside @maryannborgeson I'm not certain. But point of clarity: The 174 is a metro area figure. Douglas, Sarpy, Saunders, Dodge, Washington and two hospitals in Council Bluffs. (Includes CHI Health and Methodist.)

@jeffreyrobb I have a question: We know that hospitals outside Omaha are overflowing. Does the 174 in Douglas County include patients transferred here from other counties? @maryannborgeson do you know?

As excited as I am about learning more librarian stuff (and graduating in the spring), I’m not ready for classes to start. On top of working, worrying about kids being in school and the pandemic getting bad again, my brain can’t handle much more. Lord give me strength.

I have been telling out-of-town friends that the Omaha metro is "nearly a million people" since at least 2006. Now this claim has the added benefit of being true, or at least true-ish.

@_DanGolden @NEDHHS @JulieAnderson41 Lancaster the same. The county's reporting does not immediately equal the state's stats. DC is reporting more on the ground. The state has a process to review cases before entering into the state system.

So, according to the @NEDHHS weekly (sigh) covid statistics, there have been no new deaths in NE since at least July 21. But Douglas County has reported multiple deaths in that time. Any smart people want to explain what gives? Why the discrepancy? @JulieAnderson41 @jeffreyrobb

The 42 Omaha boulevards the city will start clearing of storm debris. BTW: 3 (Lincoln, Mercer, & John Creighton) are in my neighborhood. I trained for 2 marathons by running those & Fontenelle, Paxton, Belvedere & Minnelusa. LOVELY lanes omaha.com/news/local/the… via @owhnews
