@FossilDetective I wanted to be a professor for most of my life, but in the last couple years of my PhD, I realized that I would rather be fairly compensated for my time and work, and that good mental health is common outside academia. I keep getting confirmation that I'm making the right choice.

But faculty candidates are right to recognize their worth. In my limited experience, you never get a better deal than the one you walk in with. You're never going to get asked to do less. And it's up to institutions to do better. [9/9]

There seems to me to be a looming problem in hiring faculty in higher education that I'm not entirely sure administration are really aware of. I know of several faculty searches (including one of our own) that failed this year. [1/9]
