@TheKouk You’re confusing wealth transfers with wealth creation.

I get the impression that the bulk of Twitter folk don't like a country that has rising wealth via rising share & house prices. This may explain why policy makers have little success advocating policy reforms that further build wealth. People don't want to be wealthy - odd

@TheKouk Why would more housing supply and cheaper dwellings be a bad thing? Would too many solar panels and cheaper electricity be a bad thing?

The big rise in building approvals is a good news/ bad news story Good news: dwelling construction will in near term be less of a drag on GDP Bad news: With population growth sliding as immigration stalls, we could see a housing glut which is bad for prices & financial stability

@abcnews I met a 99 year old this week who is more active than May 1/3 her age very active energetic and has so much life force and so much to give to others. Age has nothing to do with it. Every life is of equal value. If your using time left to devalue others your argument is floored.

@jenkinsflint @smh He didn’t distinguish and that is separate question. Absolutely nothing to guarantee forced sale or repossession by banks will make housing more widely available - indeed, history suggests it will make the richest investors richer as they can swoop in on the bargains

One of ANZ Bank's most senior bankers says some borrowers who are unable to meet their mortgage payments will need to consider selling their properties in the coming months, warning it would not make sense to continue accruing interest. #Echobox=1594374400" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">smh.com.au/business/banki…

In terms of GDP, the depths of the 2020 COVID Depression will probably not be as low as feared but it looks like the pick up will be slow and tepid - this is bad news for business, job seekers & the labour market more generally #2020Depression

@cmkusher It’s about the asset purchases those HK’s can do. Not good for the wage-earning, non-land owning Australian.

This is a very significant announcement on Hong Kong. The Morrison government is not only offering five years in Australia for Hongkongers already here, but announces an incentive program for HK businesses to move here, with pathways to residency for their staff.
