@heymrsbond THIS. I *completely* understand why vulnerable people are making plans to move, and I know people mean well when they suggest we do so. But I do not want to be told to move like it’s easy to give up decades of history. My people. My home. My entire life! (I’m in TX, too.)

@rationalhumanis @Summer603ZZZ @wil_da_beast630 There are teachers on every campus in America who are paid with federal funds like Title 1 money to work with certain special populations like children in poverty or children with special needs. Federal dollars may not go to *every* kid but they do go to many.

@Summer603ZZZ @wil_da_beast630 OK, that's not helping convince me that this is a total waste of funds. Again, I have kids in school and their lives wouldn't change a bit if the federal Dept of Education disappeared. So let's save that money and use it for something effective!

You guys know that the DEPARTMENT of Education does not run a single school, right? These are the federal bureaucrats who mandate certain DEI trainings and standardized testing regimens across the states. None are (current) teachers or ball coaches.

@SJessicaJohnson I remember holding a crying student in my arms as he asked me if his mother would get deported.

I was working at an inner-city school & post-election 2016 was the eeriest day I’ve ever known. It was as if every student’s grandmother had died. And when a 7th grader whispered “I’m scared he’ll deport my uncle,” I realized my students were carrying burdens I couldn’t imagine.
