3/3 Consider the numbers that should keep every Kenyan awake at night. The entire Dangote fertiliser investment in Ethiopia is $2.5 billion. We lose comparable sums in Kenya through corruption and shady deals, and nobody is held accountable. A hundred million dollars the kind of money that could set up a meaningful manufacturing operation and employ thousands — disappears into the pockets of a few. We are not poor. We are wasteful. We are not incapable. We are distracted. Ethiopia is building. Ethiopia is manufacturing. Ethiopia is exporting. Ethiopia is transforming its cities from the ground up and it is doing all of this with remarkably little noise and fanfare. What would it take for Kenya to match this urgency? First, we need a moratorium on perpetual politicking. Governance is not a campaign rally. The men and women we elect must be compelled by public pressure, by civic demand, by sheer shame if necessary to spend more time in helping to attract investors to set up factories and not be hurling insults at funerals, more time studying industrial policy than crafting insults for social media. Secondly we need to learn from our neighbours without the false pride that has long prevented us from doing so. Rwanda taught us about cleanliness and order. Ethiopia is now teaching us about industrial ambition and execution speed. There is no shame in learning. The shame is in refusing to. I write this as a Kenyan who loves his country deeply. I write it as someone who has watched, from right here in Kenya and i have had the opportunity visit both Ethiopia and Rwanda. Ethiopia is quietly and systematically building the foundations of an industrial economy while we argue about who said what on social media. We are witnessing the China of Africa rising to our north, and it is doing so with little noise and less fanfare. While we debate, they build while we campaign, they manufacture while we point fingers, they lay foundations. As always, I choose to remain an optimist. But optimism without action is just daydreaming. And our neighbours have stopped dreaming. They are wide awake and they are building a country their people in Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Cape Town can finally come home to. Nevertheless I still choose to remain an optimist

I spent longer than I'd like to admit still thinking in CSS float layouts after Flexbox arrived. Not because I couldn't learn Flexbox. Because I'd gotten fast and confident with the old approach, and fast and confident is genuinely hard to give up. That same pattern plays out with every major shift. Responsive design. Component libraries. Now AI. The actual learning curve is usually manageable. The harder part is unlearning the instincts that used to serve you well. With AI tools, the equivalent isn't about prompting syntax or which model to use. It's letting go of the assumption that your value is in the execution. A lot of what we've been doing manually, AI handles in seconds. The role shifts toward judgment, framing, and knowing when something's wrong. Which is probably where the interesting work was all along. #UX #CareerDevelopment #AITools

What happened in the Senate Chamber on 25th March 2026 was not just an embarrassment but a gross violation of the dignity of a child. A young female student who went to Parliament under the School Voluntary Service Scheme to learn was met with inappropriate and degrading remarks from Senator Karen Nyamu. The Senate must be a SAFE space that affirms the dignity and future of our Children. Article 53(1)(d) of the Constitution guarantees every child the right to be protected from abuse and inhuman treatment. Article 53(2) makes the child's best interests paramount in every matter with no exceptions. Additionally, Section 22(1) of the Children Act 2022 prohibits any person from subjecting a child to psychological abuse which includes acts causing embarrassment and humiliation. I call upon the Senate to go beyond accepting the theatrical apology and take concrete accountability measures. Senator Karen Nyamu still sought to justify her conduct even while purporting to apologise. An apology that is read and accepted in minutes is NOT justice. If we are serious about protecting the girl child, then our institutions must reflect that seriousness.

Ever since I was born I’ve been seeing Orengo in politics, but his politics are politics of poverty. He’s not a reformist and he has no development track record. Orengo has the heart and spirit of leading people into poverty... instead of misleading Gen Z to go back to the streets, he should start with his own children.

Guys, please be careful out there — the streets can be really dangerous right now A disturbing new tactic is being reported: A woman approaches you at a bar, buys you drinks, and even pays the bill. She then offers to drop you off at her place. Once you arrive at her gate, she invites you inside "just for some water." But the moment you step in, one or two of her accomplices emerge from another room and lock the door behind you.The group then sexually assaults you. Afterwards, they hand you 50k for transport — as if money could ever erase the trauma or restore your dignity.

Nakumbuka when Ruto took power akatoka Uhuru Kenyatta's subsidy on fuel which had effectively kept fuel prices at 140/- for a long while, he came in removed subsidies and the price immediately shot up to 170/-, Ruto convinced Kenyans that market forces would eventually bring the prices down. Super petrol hasn't gone below 170/- once in his administration.🤦🏾‍♂️

Is it just me, or is it painfully obvious that many Kenyans and today’s journalists skim headlines or watch news without reading deeply or grasping their real impact? They hear about shake ups in government parastatals and instantly cry, “Ruto’s just rewarding his cronies!”without delving into the issues or pausing for the deeper, unintended consequences. Methinks something big is in the oven.

An order by a magistrate compelling an individual to report daily to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at 7:00 AM raises profound constitutional, economic, and proportionality concerns that cannot be glossed over. First, such a directive functionally curtails the subject’s freedom of movement and economic agency without the threshold of conviction. It imposes a quasi-punitive regime under the guise of pre-trial procedure. One must interrogate whether this amounts to anticipatory punishment rather than facilitative investigation. Second, the court must reckon with the economic violence embedded in the order. How is Mwabili expected to sustain gainful employment, meet contractual obligations, or exercise his right to livelihood if prime productive hours are commandeered by the State? Is the investigative apparatus prepared to indemnify him for demonstrable pecuniary loss arising from this compulsion? Third and perhaps most critically ; what probable cause was tendered to justify intrusive search and seizure of his phone? The evidentiary threshold for digital warrants must be jealously guarded, given the vast constitutional privacy interests implicated in personal devices. In sum, the jurisprudential question is not whether the State may investigate but it is whether it may do so in a manner that is excessive, economically repressive, and constitutionally disproportionate.

Interesting indeed.
Ahmednasir Abdullahi SC@ahmednasirlaw

I campaigned and voted for him as my Governor. I bought into both his alluring promises and belligerent polemics on how he will change Nairobi for better. He mesmerised me with his booming voice, youthful energy and sheer audacity to revolutionise Nairobi. His agenda was seductive. I bought into it big time. I, like many voters in Nairobi genuinely but naively thought he will herald a new dawn of bright new day... innovation and change were the buzz words. I refused to interrogate his agenda or lift the veil behind the man. I saw his short resume as strength. I even celebrated question marks about his academic background and dismissed it as attempts by the political elites to pull down to the gutters a young and visionary leader. 4 years later, Nairobi under his calamitous tenure is a shithole, the comfortable miasma for rats and rodents of similar genre. Yesterday and without having the common decency to inform the voters of Nairobi, my Governor, timorous and trembling surrendered his mandate to the National Government on a silver platter. I did not see a gun on his head. I saw a happy smiling governor, flashing his signature dimples. He left me bitter, betrayed and stranded. He showed me the middle finger! As his loyal voter, I feel cheap and without a voice in the transaction. I was used and dumped like trash. Why do elected leaders like my Governor treat us as trash once they assume office and start wallowing in the luxury of power and the attendant filthy wealth that easily comes with public office? What remedy do the voters have when their Governor without consultation and consent tranfers his executive powers to a stranger in the name of National Government? How can executive abdication and change of power be a secret elopement between State House and City Hall? And when will STUPID voters like me know a snake oil salesman from a distance and refuse to upgrade him to something he can never be? For all our chaos and problems, the stupid charlatans we elect to offices in Kenya, the buck stops with a STUPID voter like me. I'm ashamed of SOME of the choices I habitually make when I vote on polling day!

The power of RFK Jr.'s rhetoric is that it sounds logical. @billmaher's stumble shows how even smart people get trapped by it. Let's unpack it. RFK cites a "23% higher death rate" from Pfizer's trial. What he's pointing to: 21 deaths in the vaccine group vs 17 in placebo at a later data cutoff. That's 4 more deaths out of ~44,000 people, from all causes. Numbers that small are statistical noise. The trial was never designed to detect all-cause mortality differences, and FDA reviewers reported none of the deaths were considered related to vaccination. Worth noting: in the original NEJM publication, there were actually fewer deaths in the vaccine group (2 vs 4). RFK cherry-picked a later cutoff to find numbers that suited his narrative. Then comes the trap. Maher says "maybe that's the disease itself," and RFK fires back: "Then the vaccine doesn't work, does it?" That's a false choice. The trial showed the vaccine worked at what it was designed to measure: ~95% efficacy against symptomatic COVID. Whether 4 extra all-cause deaths mean anything is a completely separate question. Different questions, different answers. It's like testing whether seatbelts prevent ejection, finding that they do, and then someone saying "but 4 more people wearing seatbelts died of strokes, so seatbelts don't work." That's not how any of this works.
healthbot@thehealthb0t

RFK Jr: "If you look at the studies of the Pfizer vaccine…the people who got the vaccine had a 23% higher death rate from all causes." Bill Maher: "But that could be the disease itself." RFK Jr: "Then the vaccine doesn’t work, does it?"

We have endured Esther Passaris’ stupidity for far too long. Your latest PR-cloaked nonsense about “organizing protests” is not legislation, but it is a eulogy to civic freedom, written by a regime puppet in designer shoes. You are the regime’s glamorous errand girl, selling repression under the banner of responsibility. This woman is not fit to represent even a cactus. While Gen Zs are being tear-gassed and shot for standing up, Passaris is busy writing love letters to authoritarianism. We must make her the first skunk we recall , not just to send a message, but to draw a line in the sand.
Esther Muthoni Passaris@EstherPassaris

Thank you @IrunguHoughton for your thoughtful review of the Public Order (Amendment) Bill 2025. Your concerns reflect a long-standing tension in Kenya: how do we protect civic space while also safeguarding life, property, and essential institutions? My amendment does not seek to silence protest it seeks to organize it. It does not criminalize dissent; it provides boundaries to prevent chaos, injury, or the kind of tragic losses we continue to witness. The bill focuses on proximity to protected areas, not the content or purpose of any demonstration. It proposes that picketing near Parliament, Courts, and other vital state installations happen at a safe, coordinated distance. This mirrors global norms not suppression, but structure. Let’s have the national dialogue we all crave: one where rights are upheld and responsibilities are clear. I remain open to refinement and engagement with civil society, legal minds, and fellow legislators. Change isn’t just about resisting; sometimes it’s about shaping a better path forward. #NationalDialogue🇰🇪 #TogetherWeCan🇰🇪
