"You'd do well to remember that open source is first and foremost a method of collaboration between programmers who show up to do the work. Not an entitlement program for petulant users to get free stuff or a seat at the table where decisions are made." world.hey.com/dhh/open-sourc…

We are excited to announce that OpenSPP has been honored with the "Highly Commended" distinction in the #OpenSource Creation category at the #FutureofGovernmentAwards presented by @UNDPtech, @PublicDigitalHQ, and @AWS_Gov. This honor highlights our team's dedication to leveraging open-source technology to support the improvement and growth of effective social protection programs worldwide. Congratulations to all award ceremony winners: the Digital Identity Directorate team from Brazil, the #PhilSys & #MOSIP teams, the Bahmni team, Abhishek Singh, and Jennifer Pahlka! A special shoutout to Edwin Gonzales, our Lead Developer, whose decades-long commitment to open-source advocacy and expertise has been instrumental in the success of OpenSPP. Edwin's leadership and dedication serve as an inspiration to both our team and the wider community. As UNDP's Chief Digital Officer, Robert Opp, remarked during the ceremony, "We need to move beyond fragmentation and bring services together through interoperability". This quote resonates deeply with our mission at OpenSPP. We are motivated by the belief that digital transformation and interoperability are key drivers of progress in social protection and more widely in government services. Let's keep pushing boundaries, embracing collaboration, and leveraging technology for the greater good! #FutureOfGovernment #DigitalPublicInfrastructure #DPG #SocialProtection #OpenSource #Innovation

Yes, important to keep in mind that the very reason for the accelerated progress in AI is the fast and open exchange of ideas, publications, datasets, and code. Whoever embraces this open exchange can be part of the leading pack. Whoever cuts themselves from it inevitably falls behind.

Important to keep in mind that everyone in AI (including OAI) uses and benefits from open-source and wouldn’t be here without it. It’s the tide that lifts all boats!

We just wrapped up a fantastic week at #APSP2023. Lots of great insights from the many esteemed panelists and experts on social protection, but the key takeaways for us were: - The integration of social protection with other sectors is vital to support inclusive growth and job creation. The interoperability of SP information systems will be a key enabler.    - The Asia and Pacific region has recognized the importance of technology for social protection, building on lessons learned from COVID-19. In particular, the digitalization of social protection information systems is critical to building resilience to the increasing frequency and severity of climate shocks. - Open initiatives are critical to maximize digital public goods and enhance usability across sectors.  Thanks to @ADB_HQ, @ADBSocial, and @SP_Gateway for organizing. #SocialProtection #DigitalPublicGoods #DigitalPublicInfrastructure

The Salesforce AI team just solved LLM text summarization They released a new prompting technique called Chain of Density (CoD). Researchers realized that there's a delicate balance between the amount of details and core ideas in a summary. They then created a prompt that allows you to increase the density of any summary, you decide when to stop. The team even did a human preference study and showed that this new version was preferred to vanilla GPT. Paper: arxiv.org/pdf/2309.04269… You can copy the prompt below: --- Article: {{ ARTICLE }} You will generate increasingly concise, entity-dense summaries of the above article. Repeat the following 2 steps 5 times. Step 1. Identify 1-3 informative entities (";" delimited) from the article which are missing from the previously generated summary. Step 2. Write a new, denser summary of identical length which covers every entity and detail from the previous summary plus the missing entities. A missing entity is: - relevant to the main story, - specific yet concise (5 words or fewer), - novel (not in the previous summary), - faithful (present in the article), - anywhere (can be located anywhere in the article). Guidelines: - The first summary should be long (4-5 sentences, ~80 words) yet highly non-specific, containing little information beyond the entities marked as missing. Use overly verbose language and fillers (e.g., "this article discusses") to reach ~80 words. - Make every word count: rewrite the previous summary to improve flow and make space for additional entities. - Make space with fusion, compression, and removal of uninformative phrases like "the article discusses". - The summaries should become highly dense and concise yet self-contained, i.e., easily understood without the article. - Missing entities can appear anywhere in the new summary. - Never drop entities from the previous summary. If space cannot be made, add fewer new entities. Remember, use the exact same number of words for each summary. Answer in JSON. The JSON should be a list (length 5) of dictionaries whose keys are "Missing_Entities" and "Denser_Summary". ```

To finally bury the scourge of microservices, all we need is a hot new thing to take its place in the hype cycle. So how about just renaming monoliths to megaservices! That sounds like a hot new term that could carry at least three years of conferences, books, and consultants!
