The @UofAlabama has just followed an interim federal rule that bans TikTok on all government infrastructure. I’ll have many more thoughts coming,

@jerielizabeth @StudyReligion Out morbid of curiosity, what docs were these you found this in? Not that I'm surprised, never expected to find Scientology as a "medical expense", but curious why either would even be mentioned.

For the @StudyReligion crowd - reading the docs on qualified medical expenses to find "Christian Science Practitioners" allowed and "Scientology Counseling" excluded. Those murky lines around religion and medicine strike again

Just planned a layover in Old Town Alexandria next weekend on our trip up to New Jersey since we have to wait for the moving truck. We haven’t been back since we left in 2016 and I’m excited! T- 4 days to house closing, school ending, and our escape.

We talked about this specific example a year ago in the 'Religion and Science' course I took in my undergrad from @jerielizabeth. Was INCREDIBLY eye opening. Also was one of my favorite courses I've ever taken.

Ever found the discourse around "intelligence" in "A(G)I" squicky or heard folks pointing out the connection w/eugenics & wondered what that was about? History of it all can be found in this excellent talk by @timnitGebru (w/ co-author @xriskology) youtube.com/watch?v=P7XT4T…

@timnitGebru @samwightt A very late reply but end of semester has kept me from twitter lately. Happy to chat more! The goal of the course was to show how the categories of “religion” and “science” are not clear, obvious, or necessary. The language around AI is a great example of that. It invokes both.

What DH folks try to tell their institutions when they get on the DH hype train: it isn’t hardware or software. It’s unsexy infrastructure. It’s investing in people w/ sustainable jobs that ensure institutional memory. And it must be rooted in what folks are already trying to do.
Roopika Risam@roopikarisam

A friend wrote to ask about what should go on a wishlist for a DH center in terms of hardware/software. I said that’s actually not the question to start with. It’s about who you have and what they are doing and what they need, which may be but isn’t necessarily equipment. A PSA.
