First opening its gates in the late 1980s, this legendary track has thundered with the sound of American motorsports history for decades. It has welcomed premier drag racing events, hosted national touring series, and proudly operated under IHRA sanctioning during a pivotal chapter of its past. Countless memories were made on its pavement, and generations of racers and fans helped shape its legacy. Now, that legacy comes full circle. With the facility once again under IHRA ownership, the acquisition represents more than a transaction—it marks a homecoming. It is a reconnection to the track’s roots and the beginning of a bold new vision designed to honor its history while driving it confidently into the future. In the days ahead, IHRA will begin facility improvements and operational preparations, laying the foundation for a revitalized motorsports destination—one built on tradition, fueled by passion, and ready to write the next great chapter in racing history.

One week ago today, we cut the ribbon for a new Riverside Drive. This project, we deemed “Riverside Revamped”, is the direct product of community input and involvement - taking the people’s voices and ideas and implementing them into real action as the community desperately pleaded for more parking at Tom Lee Park & for a safer roadway. As president of the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Memphis, often called “the voice of downtown”, it is my job to listen and create solutions for the people I represent in 38103. I am honored to serve in this roll and help lift these voices but this project wouldn’t have been possible without Mayor Paul Young and his team - especially Penelope Huston, John Zeanah, and Chief Adams. This administration is different than any other I have worked with in past. They LISTEN. They APPRECIATE community. And they help you find a way to make things happen. Over the last week, I have gotten several emails and messages saying how nice Riverside is and how grateful everyone is for the additional parking. And of course, without missing a beat, a few skeptics and haters. But, to those showing appreciation, it feels good to say to them: WE did this TOGETHER: your community leaders & your local government. I look forward to working with Mayor Young & his team in the future as we push for a better Downtown.
