Nileist can actually look like a classic horse. This is him in the bridle that he ultimately wrecked by snapping the throat latch and nose band simultaneously after stepping on his own reins. Perfect physics. #NileistLifestyle

I am reposting this today to honor Seattle Slew. 24 years ago today he decided to leave this world on his own terms😢he died on the same day he won the Kentucky Derby 25 years later. He was 28. He has always been my heart horse❤️I Love you Slew💔❤️🐎😇

Scuttle — the horse rescued — spent his entire life never knowing love or kindness.
Only endless labor, neglect, and heartbreaking abuse.
And in the end, in his final years, he was discarded… at a slaughterhouse 💔
Look at Scuttle now — healthy, beautiful, and joyful, running and playing freely across the meadow, finally loved and cared for with tenderness and devotion 💖✨

@mrlongshore If it’s run and thrown correctly, it’s six yards minimum. That’s 2nd and 4 or 3rd and 2. I’ll take it.

Access hitches have always felt like clean football.
Take the free access. Stay on schedule. Make the defense pay for soft leverage. Force corners to tighten their cushion.
I still believe there is a place for that.
But this data made me pause.
Hitches are completing at 71.5% compared to 64.7% for the full outside WR route menu. They also carry a lower interception rate. On paper, that looks like efficient quarterback play.
The problem is what happens after the completion.
Compared to the full outside WR route menu, hitches produced fewer yards per target, fewer explosives, less YAC, and dramatically fewer touchdowns. That does not make the hitch a bad route. It does raise a better question:
Is the offense staying efficient, or is the defense allowing completions that do not actually stress the structure?
That is where the fool’s gold argument lives.
A good access hitch can punish cushion and keep a corner honest. But if the offense lives there too often, the defense may be perfectly comfortable letting the ball go outside, triggering downhill, rallying to the tackle, and avoiding real vertical stress.
I am still sorting through this one.
Because I love the access answer.
I am just not sure the answer is always creating the consequence I thought it was.

They had to say goodbye to magnificent Glitterball.
For those who have never heard of Glitterball, she was the granddaughter of the famous 1973 Kentucky Derby winner Secretariat. Glitterball was suffering from a metabolic condition that made it impossible for her to go on. The owners tried everything. The people and other horses who were close to her and loved her, are taking it hard.

Because you’ve all been on this journey with me from the beginning and I don’t keep secrets from the very people who make this endeavor possible…
George (JC: Clever Cody), the OG and our reason for being, has told me it’s time. His body is failing him and he is exhausted. I promised him I would always do right by him and this is no exception. I love him enough to let him go on a good day and with the dignity he deserves… we are working out details with our vet. It isn’t an emergency but it’s time…
We got to spend five years with this amazing soul, which is about 4 3/4 years longer than we thought considering the shape he was in when he arrived.
George is quiet and comfortable at the moment, he isn’t in pain or distress. He’s been lying down a lot but getting up, too. And after spending the morning lying down and resting he’s asked to go back out into the pasture with his herd for the afternoon.
We are still fundraising for hay and now we are adding for George’s final expenses. I don’t know what it’s going to be but it’ll probably be close to $500.
Please pray for a peaceful passage for my guy and maybe a little for my broken heart, for all of our broken hearts.
We raised $210 toward our hay fundraiser yesterday (thank you Seth and Tanya) to bring our total to $2,236 and $3,764 left to go (I was off by $10 in total needed yesterday, bad at math or typo, take your pick.)
We absolutely need to get hay today so we’d sure love to get closer to goal. We are holding on, praying we make it.
We are always so grateful for the support we do get so thank you to everyone who has helped ad to those we know who still will. And as always every donation is tax deductible.

@jerrysboy11 @PyroisMedia @ABRLive Tony... let's not go into the fact that K's "observations" were often pining for softness within me. Which was wrong...

On this first week between the #KYDerby and the Preakness, I want to welcome all our new followers! To read more about me, please read this fabulous article by @PyroisMedia for @ABRLive americasbestracing.net/lifestyle/2015…
We invite as many from the public as possible to join our family at @freshstarttblc to learn about the horses we retired after racing, help support those horses and do more to expand our world as we can. We're constantly innovating behind the scenes to create a world that interests all of us, whether we are already involved with horses, or have a curiosity or fear of them, yes, fear because if you're fearful, come here to learn that horses may not be as scary as you think, as the horses have lives far after and beyond racing, which are magical in many ways. And it's invigorating to share it.
Be a part of the magic! Join our family! Please consider donating to our 501(c)(3) charity FreshStart Thoroughbred Lifecare. We advocate for a comprehensive retirement plan that provides lifetime care, rehabilitation, retraining and a future for thoroughbred race horses who need someone to love them and a pasture they can call home. To donate using credit/bank cards or Zelle visit freshstart-tblc.org or via Paypal, use this link: Donate.freshstart-tblc.org/gahq
