Hey science twitter, I need help. Looking for advice to how to cold call/email field researchers in Antarctica and offer my assistance as an assistant, field lab monkey etc, without sounding like those scam emails that academics get?

@zeus_engineer @NZScienceLearn Concurrently, there are a lot of support jobs (domestic, mechanic, tradie) and those are usually managed separately by a country’s Antarctic programme (or subcontract). For those, you apply through BAS, AntNZ, etc but you have to be permitted to work in that country

@zeus_engineer @NZScienceLearn Identify the projects and contact the project admin/PI to be notified when there are such positions available, then apply. This usually involves working through universities first.

@MavisDuncanson I mean, UV light does destroy genetic material and has been used to sterilize equipment in hospitals (tho I think clinical settings use far more than you get on a sunny Dunner day…)

With plague in the whare I learn that I have a strong belief in the viricidal power of fresh air and sun. I collect their dishes, put them through hygiene plus wash, wipe trays down and then put them out in the sun
