@indigo_k @jeffparker I actually like 'em. They won't set the film world on fire, but "as good as Magnum" is probably accurate. Selleck solves murders, dates cute women, mopes around. Good casts -- William Sadler, Viola Davis, etc -- decent scripts and cinematography.

@bclaymoore Yeah. I think he understood Kirby's appeal better than the Image guys'. Maybe it was more "of his moment."

I think he didn't understand the appeal of the style he was (presumably) being asked to emulate, so he just copied its surface elements and obvious shortcomings, and the result was neither fish nor fowl.

@jason1749 I like when figures from transient media (like radio) are immortalized in media that will last longer. In twenty years, kids will still be enjoying their performances in CARS without ever learning what CarTalk was.
