@JamesAFurey But kids aren't forced to go to respectable establishments.
English

Schools can’t continue to operate on the customer service model unless we realize that much of the behavior teachers see in the classroom day to day would get someone kicked out of any respectable establishment.
Everywhere you go, there are rules. Lack of enforcement in any space leads to chaos.
English

@Iowa_Enjoyer @JamesAFurey What's wrong with public schools? They're working exactly as they were designed to.
English

@jessejdude @JamesAFurey You get your homework back, use it to study what you don't know, so that when the test comes you're stronger on what you missed on the homework. Quizzes are the same way. I don't disagree that public schools are totally fucked right now, but this is about how it should work
English

Similarly, I’ve eliminated all test re-takes.
I used to have students, before taking the quiz, request a retake because they “didn’t have the time to study last night.”
If you have a test retake policy you encourage students to pick and choose which ones they’ll work for and which they’ll put off.
Absolutely no. Take the time to prepare the first time, give your best effort, and stop relying on the kindness of your teachers to help you finagle your way to a better grade.
Much better lessons learned from this.

Later into my teaching career, I set a simple classroom rule: No late work, none Kids didn’t start failing en masse Instead, they all started turning their work in on time, no rush of late assignments at semester’s end, fewer students falling behind It was a more humane rule
English

@alexinomia @JamesAFurey Which proves my point. Tests aren't useful for the real world.
English

@jessejdude @JamesAFurey technically yes but that's beside the point. we're talking about test retakes!
tests are not subject to market conditions, supply shocks, new regulation, taxation, disruption, etc.
failing an exam is not at all analogous to business failure
English

@jessejdude @JamesAFurey this is such a dumb way to think about school and I say that as somebody who took advantage of test re-takes and deadline extensions
English

@Iowa_Enjoyer @JamesAFurey But they mark you down for incorrect answers on homework too. Making Mistakes are not encouraged in public school.
English

@jessejdude @JamesAFurey That's what the homework is for. The test is to discover whether you actually learned anything or not
English

@shaguncrypto They're not praising him for "stability". Home ownership = status elevation
English

@HaileyLennonBTC Why wouldn't you buy it for price appreciation? That's the entire point of btc. Sound money > fiat money.
English

@jessejdude @MrDanielBuck You are correct, I have zero interest in the pov of a disrespectful brat who flew off the handle when told to sit down and do their work
English

@DanaPalubiak And they’re reading for enjoyment. Kind of the entire point of wanting kids to read 👍
English

@kbteach_1 @ModestTeacher You don't have a need to move your body every 45 mins to an hour? Unless I'm sleeping, I do.
English

@jessejdude @ModestTeacher It’s not the need to take a break. When kids do it EVERY class period, we have a problem. As the previous text stated, many leave for the reasons he stated. At the rate they ask to go to the bathroom, you’d think they had bladder issues.
English

@JohnsonRed45850 @ModestTeacher Not the teachers’ fault. It’s the system based on theft.
English

@jessejdude @ModestTeacher Yay another "blame the teacher" bit.
English

@kbteach_1 @ModestTeacher Why does the need to take a break make them a “crappy” student? I take breaks all time from learning.
English

@jessejdude @ModestTeacher Nah, they leave classrooms by a+ teachers, too. They’re just crappy students just as much as crappy teachers🤷🏽♂️

This coming from the “modest teacher”
The Modest Teacher@ModestTeacher
We have to normalize telling kids “no” when they ask to use the bathroom during class
English

"Deciding how to best educate your own kids should be illegal." Nah, I'm good.
Colin@Colin_d_m
Homeschooling should be illegal. “But I teach my kids better than the state!” Doesn’t matter, the primary purpose of elementary/middle school isn’t to teach it’s to socialize your kid. You can’t do that alone. And this isn’t even mentioning how it can be used to abuse kids
