Some folks were sooo upset when I said that Xbox’s whole shtick lately has been rotating between key jangling, bribery, and giving select fans/influencers access with this implicit understanding that they were an extension of PR, but here we are. I’m so incredibly angry lmao

It’s clearer than ever that Asha’s first 100 days being centered around putting “fans first,” invoking nostalgia, and building loyalty towards Xbox as a brand was deliberate and deceitful. What a move, pandering and aligning themselves with the most fanatical before pulling this!

Obviously life isn’t perfect and I go through the same highs and lows we all do—that’s life! But 99% of the time, I feel happy, lucky, and extremely proud of what I’ve done to get here and make this life for myself.

It’s so funny how anytime you call out something you don’t like, it’s “you must be a miserable person.” I have my dream job, am married to a fantastic guy, have the best kid, live in a nice home, have a great group of friends, and am a pretty optimistic/joyful person, actually 💕

Posted this elsewhere, so I’ll share here too. I went to Xbox's Fan Fest event to attend a preview event and it was the most flagrant display of wealth imaginable. Five stories filled with caterers and hundreds of smiling faces there to assure me of the brand's strength.

Odd how I never saw droves of women (or men) complain these male protagonists were too "ugly". Folk simply acknowledged they looked grounded and realistic to the world, even if it was fictional. Yet many can't afford the same narrative leeway to women in games. To some, women protagonists aren't allowed to look normal or realistic, nor NOT wear make-up and NOT look like an Instagram model or porn star, instead they HAVE to be super hot. That to me is such a socially detached, weird and creepy standard to have, and I can't help but think most who share it likely have extremely limited real world experience with non related women, who are comfortable enough around them to not wear make-up. I say all this as someone who LOVES hot or sexy women in games. But that doesn't mean ALL female protagonists have to be like that. I like my grounded, normal, realistic depictions too. Just like I did the male protagonists below, who are arguably far uglier in comparison lol.

@jessicogss Not saying you're wrong but when you turn a blind eye to Sony who also shutdown as many studios and had layoffs it's hard for me to take you serious as a *journalist*. A journalist is supposed to be impartial.

@jessicogss R.I.P. Bluepoint Games, Firewalk, London Studio and Japan Studio. They deserved better. Remember when Jim Ryan went to London Studio a week before their closure so they could celebrate his retirement. All the while secretly knowing the studio was about to be axed. Disgusting.

Seeing these comments and thank god I don’t make a habit of licking boots like some of you. I’ll never have loyalty to a company like Xbox OR Sony. In fact, that actually makes me more of a professional and helps me do my job. I can’t be bought but clearly you wanted me to be 👍

All of these big gaming companies are a bit ridiculous, but all of the key jangling nonsense I've witnessed from Xbox lately has me feeling a level of disgust and cynicism I've never before experienced. I wish the best for the folks over there in the coming weeks 🤍
