City AM, London’s most read financial paper, is reporting Rory McIlroy could be close to joining LIV Golf for $850 million plus an ownership stake in the league. This report comes on the back of strong rumours among media members at the Masters. More: cityam.com/analysis-is-ro…

🚨🌍⛳️ #WORLD TOUR — Rory McIlroy talked about his vision for a potential world tour: I would say take the best events from all over the world and try to create something through that, because those events still have history and legacy and tradition and all the things that are still very important in golf. I think there's been some experiments with creating new tournaments out of nothing, and I don't know if they have really captured the imagination of the general public. That's what you want, like, why is the Masters the Masters, why is this tournament this tournament, why are the more historical tournaments the ones that are revered so much in our game, it's because they have history, and people remember Ben Hogan winning or Jack Nicklaus or these guys. It's all about trying to bridge the, I guess, trying to bridge the present back to the past and the people that came before us. I think that's important.” @TrackingRory

College golfers can accept NIL money, but can't cash a check in a pro event. Should a college player be able to cash a check at a tour event?

@LouStagner @Toddomatic85 Winning a prize pool makes you a professional (getting paid to play). NIL is getting paid based on their name, image or likeness. They aren’t winning money from competition

@flushingitgolf Hey, I am a graphic designer. I love making graphics that are simple but give a slight visual into the story. Would adding graphics to your post/stories be of value to you? PS I sent you a DM

@padraig_h They should grow the rough out for professional events to the level of the US Open. This would give more risk/reward for distance and make accuracy more crucial. Grass can be cut right after the event. Don’t punish everyone for the 1% who hit it “too far”

There’s a lot of arguments to consider with this roll back, many of which we will only be decided with time. As individuals we all have biases to what we think and as such we need a governing body to make decisions on our behalf for the greater good. As much as it’s easy to hate politics( I particularly hate committees) it’s the most widely used system to solve the NIMBY in all of us. @RandA @USGA @PGATOUR @DPWorldTour

I don’t agree with him 99.9% of the time but this why this shouldn’t happen. They should grow the rough out for professional events to the level of the US Open. This would give more risk reward for distance and make accuracy more crucial. Grass can be cut right after the event.
Brandel Chamblee@chambleebrandel

I appreciate the governing bodies and what they mean to the game, but on the roll back issue they are not only out of touch with the game they govern, but the people that play it. It is a very small number of people that are in favor of a roll back. Golf course architects of which there are what, maybe a hundred or so? Golf course architect geeks of which there are maybe a few thousand? And a very few tour players and former tour players, compared to 50 million global golfers against it and 28,000 PGA of America members against it and most every single touring professional against it. The average LPGA tour player flies the ball 220 yards, the average male amateur carries the ball 215 yards, the average female amateur carries the ball 147 yards, (all numbers courtesy of a USGA report btw) but because a few tour players through years of practice, thousands of hours in the gym, and yes, advances in tech, can carry the ball 283.8 yards (tour average for 2023) they want to penalize 50 million golfers. Please. Appreciate the athleticism of the best, but don’t punish the only people in the game that will feel the sting of this decision.
