If you are going to be at Fal.Con 2024 in Las Vegas be sure to come by booth #1601 to learn more about how we work with CrowdStrike to make it easy to enforce #ZeroTrust controls that adapt to risks. cfl.re/4dEJiA4

You guys. The Jan 30 federal Gjovik v Apple decision, with a Judge complaining that I wrote the Gödel, Escher, Bach of complaints, has already become Northern District of California precedent - here it is cited in a San Jose Division case: casetext.com/case/resh-inc-…

@GergelyOrosz @Zerquix18 Instagram was also of the pre compliance era. GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, SOC 2, and ISO 27001 have virtues… but they do not make products easier to build and manage.

@Zerquix18 It’s much easier to scale to millions of users. It’s harder to get cheap or free distribution for it. So somewhat harder yet also easier.

Wild to think that more than 10 years ago, a startup got to 30 million native mobile users: with 13 engineers. They were called Instagram. Today, we have better infra (to scale w/o needing to do custom builds), more powerful frameworks etc. Yet few teams can come close to this.

Bill Cosby‘s rep asks public to “ease personal feelings” about Cosby and Harvey Weinstein. What a dismal moral compass one must need to embark on an “Embrace the Rapists!” tour.

Working in ethical AI is like "Gotta take a break from this nonconsensual pornography issue to make reviewer comments on how an AI research endeavor has clear dual use for genocide before I can finish reading this article on hate speech". And y'all wonder why we seem glum. 🫠

@rohanspatel @RgvElena @Tesla @elonmusk Absolutely yes to direct customer feedback and suggestions. But it shouldn’t have to funnel through a solitary, inherently overburdened CEO. This should be Product Manage SOP.

Every @Tesla leader has gotten emails from @elonmusk (and each other) with solely a forward of a X post that has a good suggestion from one of you. When I first joined Tesla I thought it was wild that our CEO/Technoking would action items from X by literally forwarding them, usually with a ? or ! as the subject line. Now I think it’s kind of crazy *not* to act on the best ideas(especially from our customers) with speed and seriousness. I’m proud to work at a company where the leadership tries to take the best ideas from anywhere (customers, interns, regulators) and integrate them quickly into our products and services.

Tesla, together with its retail shareholders, solving problems and moving forward to a better future. Disruption like never before, moving at the speed of Space Travel…….. No wonder Legacy Auto, Big Oil, Legacy News, and so many other special interests hate them and everything about what they do. No one else has ever included the customer feedback into the product like this, resulting in growth never seen before. Not that I can remember, not in my life. Thanks @rohanspatel for including us!

@ReinH A small almost trivial amount of resources and concern from market making companies could legitimately fix or at least greatly improve so many of these hidden linchpin open source tragedies.

@mipsytipsy How to get those? We seldom choose the logs our components emit. And we go to incidents with the logs we have, not the logs we want.

Structured logs are the bridge between observability 1.0 (multiple pillars, many tools) and 2.0 (single source of truth). If you can only do one thing to improve your telemetry, make your logs wider and richer. Structured logs, not metrics, are how we get to the future. 💕

It's been a good run, but after 25 years, I'm leaving CNET. I've loved the journalistic privilege of being paid to indulge my curiosity about tech then explain it to everyone. I have another thing lined up that I'll talk about after a little break. linkedin.com/feed/update/ur…
